We are pleased to announce the first activity of the "Knowledge in Pieces" community -- a workshop at AERA 2009 in San Diego. WORKSHOP THEME
"What is knowledge analysis?" Shared perspectives on observing and representing learners' knowledge systems and how they grow and change as students reason and learn
UPDATE Check out pictures from the 2009 "Knowledge Analysis" Workshop.
TIME/VENUE
The workshop will take place Monday, April 13, from 8 am to 3:30 pm in the Manchester Grand Hyatt, Mohsen Room A.
SCOPE/PURPOSE
The workshop will focus on theoretical and methodological issues involved in fine-grained studies of students' reasoning, learning, and conceptual change. As the first activity of this community, we envision the workshop primarily as an opportunity to bring people together to have some in-depth discussions about research and current work. We are seeking to:
- Build community by fostering a stronger sense of common purpose beyond smaller, local research groups
- Support collaboration and seed future research by providing opportunities to share work in progress and collectively discuss timely issues that are of collective interest
- Organize, systematize, and present the accomplishments of the knowledge analysis community
