Lesson 1: What is Web 2.0?

 

Lesson 2: Introduction to Google Docs.

  • Show video:  Google Docs. in Plain English
  • Open document:  My Summer Vacation
  • Explain that Google Docs. allows users to use cloud computing.  Documents are "saved" on the Internet and accessible from any computer/laptop/mobile device, just like email.
  • Demonstrate the collaboration capabilities:  ask classroom teacher to logon and open the shared document on another computer.  The students can watch what the classroom teacher types on the document I am presenting.  (real-time collaboration).
  • Discuss relation to cyberbullying, digital citizenship and digital footprint
  • Review permission slip and have student sign it in class after answering any questions.

Lesson 3: Begin writing assignment

  • Allow students to logon and create a new document:  Describe your expereinces from this year to the students who are coming to 5th Grade in Septemeber.  Students work in lab/classroom.  The students can become comfortable with Google Docs. while the teachers are present.  Teachers can troubleshoot.

    Lesson 4: Collaboration

  • Demonstrate previous versions/revisions/history
  • Demonstrate footnotes
  • Demonstrate comments
  • Discuss use of different color font
  • Students will add teacher, tech teacher and peer as collaborators.
     
    Complete first draft of writing
     
    Homework:  peer review and edit

    Lesson 5: Presentation Tool

    • Demonstrate the similarities between Google presentation tool and PowerPoint.
    • Ask one student of a team to create a new presentation, and then invite the 2nd partner to collaborate.
    • Point out the chat capabilties and ask students to collaborate on the presentation, without speaking??
      • Discuss time management and remind students about appropriate use of chat!
    • Students will co-create presentations INSERT PRESENTATION PROJECT HERE.
    Homework:  complete presentation
     

    Lesson 6: Forms for Quiz and Reflection

    • Show students the Google spreadsheet and demonstrate it's similarity to Excel.
    • Demonstrate the use of Forms to create online polls/quizes.
    • Ask students to complete online quiz, previously created by classroom teacher.
    • Ask students to complete online reflection form, created by lab teacher.
