*ABOUT JAPAN

How did you meet Japanese culture first?

Anime (Ghost in the shell)

What kind of Japanese culture are you interested in? (Anything is O.K.)

Anime, manga, music, some history

How do you contact with Japanese culture? What kind of media do you use?

Internet, video, music

Are there any communities talking about Japan around you?

I am pretty sure there are but i don't participate in any

Are there any obstacles when you want to know about Japanese culture?

The language :)

Also there are only very few (good) (tv/video)documentaries available about japan.

Many documentaries concentrate on the more unusual things like capsule-hotels, cosplay, maid cafes and so on (for an example see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanorama), so that leves very few really interesting ones - for a good example see arukihenro.

Do you have something made in Japan? What is that?

I own some things that were created by japanese companies (digital camera, stereo components, things like that) but i don't think any of them were actually produced in japan.

How is the impression about Japan in your country?

Generally it is probably seen by most as a country on the same level as germany (technologically, economically) but with a very different culture. somewhat exotic.

There are quite a few younger people who are into anime, manga, some japanese music (there are, for example, dedicated anime/manga shops) - but i can't really say what their impression of japan is.

Please tell us about Japan you think you only know.

i am afraid i don't understand this question.

Please tell us good points of Japan Japanese don't seem to notice.

The language. I really like the sound of it even if i don't understand it (sadly i don't have the time needed to learn it). For example, i always watch anime with subtitles to hear the original voices.

If you were born in Japan, what do you want to do?

If you mean as a profession - i find the process of making katanas fascinating, so maybe a smith - but more probably i would do the same as i do now.

 Additional Question:

Please tell us bad points of Japan Japanese don't seem to notice.

It seems that japanese people don't like (to learn) the english language (or maybe more generally any foreign language?).

One good example is your own course - it was supposed to be held in english but you chose to hold it in japanese.
Another example: when there was a japanese user who wanted to use an open source software i am working on, his lack of knowledge of the english language made communication nearly impossible.
Also, pronounciation of english words based on the syllables of your alphabet(s), like "knight-o" (instead of simply knight), when spoken (in anime), make me cringe each time. Curiously this doesn't seem to be done with german words (at least in the very few occurances i noticed any).
