  • Two tribes: Tutsi and Hutu
  • The Hutu are 85% of the population.
  • The Tutsi are 15% of the population.
  • Tutsi can become Hutu if they lose their wealth, and vice versa.
  • One of the causes of the genocide was the fact that the Hutu were peasants, and Tutsis had at least ten cattle.
  • Hutu could become Tutsi if they gained ten cattle.
  • Tutsis were favored by Europeans for racial reasons.
  • Tusti are taller, lighter and have aquiline noses.
  •  Hutus are short, dark, and have broad noses.
