THE BASIC FACTS OF INDIA SLAVERY (BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS) The Humans Rights Watch estimates that as many as 15 million children work as slaves. In 1994 U.S. Department of Labor reported that 400,000 children worked in the rug industry as slaves. A former Indian Chief Justice, P.N. Bhangwati, has publicly testified about discovering some "heart-rendering" examples of boys working fourteen to twenty hours a day who are beaten up and branded with red hot iron rods, even hung from a tree upside down. |
