Over the last four years of high school, I have learned many life lessons that I will value forever. One of the main lessons I have learned is how to be a self advocate. When I was in 6th grade I was diagnosed with Dyslexia. With this changing my whole learning career, I had to deal with teachers telling me that I did not need accommodations. This was the time that I had to really become my own advocate. My mom was very involved with my education but I felt that I should be able to stick up for myself. I would read my accommodations over and over again so I would know what I was entitled to. Most teachers liked the fact that I was my own voice but there were a few who took it the wrong way. They thought that I was arguing with them and saying they were wrong. Throughout all of my high school career I knew what my accommodations were. This lesson has taught me how to be my own voice and how to show my opinion in the proper way. This lesson is also one that I can pass onto my students when I become a teacher.
