Here I wish to record my
ideas about how I can contribute towards environment and energy
(non-conventional); and write down about the various organizations and
individuals which/who are striving in this direction and have been
successful. I may join them, help them advance / expand their
activities, or start my own initiatives and involve them. Mission: To Involve More And More People Around The World To Contribute Towards Improving Environment. To Convince More And More People To Use Non-Conventional Sources Of Energy. To Make India Self-Sufficient For Her Energy Needs.
Update (Sept. 3, 2009): Techfest 2009-10 and TECHNIC club have announced a GC for saving energy consumption in hostels. Here, the energy consumption will be observed towards the end of every month, and the percentage savings achieved during the month will be compared. The hostel with highest savings in a month will gain 3 GC points. This GC will be for 3 months. - Through IITB-aa (Alumni Association), participate & take initiatives (IITB has a mailing group of environment-concerned campusites.) - How about having a PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate van within the campus?! All the vehicles coming in the campus will have to secure the certificate, else: either they should be made to return from main gate itself or a fine be imposed.

Anil K Rajvanshi, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, has been directly involved in a whole spectrum of areas affecting the lives of India's rural population which include cooking and lighting, small power generation, water purification and effluent treatment through the use of renewable energy. Anil will receive the Globe Forum Award 2009 award from H.R.H. Swedish Crown Princess Victoria on June 3rd, 2009 in Sweden, on behalf of the Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute (NARI). NARI has developed a light source which runs on locally produced fuel, is environmentally friendly and produces bright light equivalent to that from a 100 W electric bulb. This lantern also doubles up as a cooking stove thereby solving the twin problem of cooking and lighting for rural households. NARI is the first anywhere to propose and develop a dual purpose lantern running on 55-60% ethanol-water mixture.
