Current Studies:

 READING:

• Readers workshop gives us a chance to focus on comprehension skills and to understand the author's purpose and focus.
• Students will keep a reading log in class.

• During our 90 minute Literacy Block we will be working out of our Harcourt Trophies Basal readers, using literacy stations, engaging in guided reading and Silent Sustained Reading and Reader's Theatre.  It is a lot to cover, but I have set up a rotation schedule with a "Can Do/Must Do" Menu to help guide us in our learning.

WRITING:

• We will be setting up our Writer's Workshop procedures and learning skills to become more effective writers.  Students will use content area studies as well as creative writing prompts to develop their ideas from the pre-writing through the publishing stage.

MATH:

• Our initial focus in Math will be reviewing skills and introducing Multiplication and division.
• Everyday Math will be used for instruction.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

• Our first unit of study will be Community, Civics, and Government.  I will be introducing Economics through the vehicle of my classroom store and economy.

SCIENCE:

• We are beginning our study of Matter and Energy in the second quarter!
