Friends Approaching Resilience Merrily

FARM is an organization for celebrating the myriad of achievements in our local area that bring us closer to a healthier, stronger future.

Resilience is a concept of great importance as we move into an uncertain future. Rob Hopkins, founder of the Transition movement, describes resilience as the "ability [of communities] to not collapse at first sight of oil or food shortages... their ability to respond with adaptability to disturbance." Our current lives often seem disorienting and impossible, with nightly news proclaiming danger of crime, war, shortages, economic eruption, and medical disasters hiding behind every twinkie. Many of us wonder how it could possibly go on this way.

We believe that choosing local options over imported options, for food, health, entertainment, society, education, and virtually every facet of our lives, promotes resilience and brings control back into our communities. Since we are based in Manette, we are focused on building resilience in Manette, but we also want to support and celebrate the efforts of other resilience building work in our broader county community.
