Problems and Moral Issues with Chemical Weapons

Many of the chemical weapons fired from artillery during various wars still remain in the ground unexploded and could go off at any time. Jon Spencer, a former Navy engineer, said, “If all of the unexploded shells in Europe went off at one time, it would wipe out the whole continent.”

Many countries have tried to excavate the unexploded weapons, but they do not have enough people or the resources to do it. Aside from these issues, many people have a problem with the morality of chemical weapons. It is considered an extremely cruel way to kill, or exterminate, and is very inhumane.

Chemical weapons are just a step down from nuclear weapons and should be taken very seriously. The effects of them can be catastrophic as they can cover a large area of land very quickly, effectively attacking every person in a large vicinity. These weapons, if used by terrorists, would cause mass chaos and terror, not to mention a very large loss of life.
