THE GERMAN SCHOOL IN BROOKLYN

Growing up multilingual is a wonderful gift for a child to have.

As the first German Immersion School in NYC, based in Park Slope, KinderHaus serves the local and international community of New York City with a private day school and after school program serving 200 children for Preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarden  and community wide programming, including German Language immersion Afterschool, SummerCamps, MiniHoliday camps and Enrichment classes for preschoolers to Elementary students.
We are located in beautiful renovated light filled spaces with full backyards, decks and planting gardens. Language acquisition and usage is reinforced in an environment where children are able to speak to their peers in the immersion language.

We are in cooperation with the German government organization Zentralstelle fur das Auslandsschulwesen, the Central Agency for schools abroad and affiliated with the National Association of Independent Schools.

We have structured a developmentally appropriate program based on a child's intellectual, social, and physical needs and which is designed to encourage child-initiated learning activities within a supportive environment. Our modern teaching philosophy incorporates the best of the European kindergarten model with the American school.

In an inquiry based environment, children will learn to
develop their own knowledge through investigation and observation. The curriculum is based on seasonal, cultural and universal themes, where all the core subjects are incorporated, and children learn cognitive, mathematical elements and self expression through language.

We encourage children to be an active part of the Kinderhaus. Participation is a strong aspect in our work and we believe that children can play a significant role in inventing and shaping their themes and projects.
