I
would like to dedicate the majority of this website to the memory of
Marion Morrison, better known as John Wayne (May 26, 1907 – June 11,
1979). The Duke exemplified the words Movie Star. He did not
compromise, did not make a mockery of his craft, as happens so often
today, and stood tall as a proud American. John Wayne had his faults
like all men and was far from perfect, but he had charisma, talent and
a screen presence that will never be equaled. The Duke is still
incredibly popular and his movies are usually the first anyone thinks
of when choosing a Western. God Bless America and God Bless you John
Wayne. As great as he was John Wayne was not alone in making westerns. There are thousands of actors and actresses who made the Golden Age of Westerns golden. Here is a partial list of my other favorite actors, directors and musicians from days gone by. Alan Ladd, Amanda Blake, Audie Murphy, Barbara Stanwyck, Chief Dan George, Clayton Moore, Clint Eastwood, Dale Evans, Dan Blocker, Dean Martin, Eli Wallach, Ennio Morricone, Gabby Hayes, Gary Cooper, Gene Autry, James Arness, James Coburn, James Stewart, Jay Silverheels, John Ford, Ken Curtis, Lee Marvin, Lee Van Cleef, Milburn Stone, Robert Vaughn, Roy Rogers, Sergio Leone, Steve McQueen, Tom Mix and Yul Brenner. This list is far from complete but these are the men and women who filled my childhood with wonder. Thank you all for firing my imagination. Also, if I have forgotten you on the list please know you are forever remembered in my heart. I would also like to thank Dave Kenzer, Jolly & Barbara Blackburn, Mark Plemmons, Steve Johansson, Brian Jelke and the rest of the awesome Kenzer & Company crew for having the guts to go against the common "wisdom" and release the best damn Old West RPG ever! |
