Aces & Eights
Glossary
Aces & Eights – 1. The best damn Old West RPG ever. 2. The poker hand that legend says Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was murdered most foul.
Black Horse – A slowly dying small town southwest of Lazarus. Black Horse is intended to be blank canvas for a new campaign. As such the designers will not be writing any more info on the town. That is left up to the individual GM.
Cuba – The 30th state. Admitted to the US 15 May 1849. Currently Confederate.
Count –The unit of real time (1/10th of a second) that is used to determine the order of actions in combat. This replaces the usual system of Rounds common to most RPG's. For example, cocking and firing a pointed weapon is a 3 count (3/10ths of a second). If the Count is currently 7 your action (cocking and firing) would occur on Count 10. If you chose the same action again you would go again on Count 13. Other actions may take more or less Counts. Count Up –The act of the GM advancing the Count (q.v.) a single number at a time after initiative is rolled as players declare their actions and determine the number of Counts each one takes to accomplish. Deseret – A
quasi-independent nation founded by the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints aka the Mormon church. They have claimed territory
belonging to Mexico and several small wars have been fought between
Deseret and Mexico with Deseret generally getting the worst end but not losing any territory.
Lazarus –Lazarus was intended to be the default town setting for Aces & Eights. It was announced as a boxed set that has not yet materialized. Lazarus is located where Aztec, NM sits in our world. Muskeegee – Not to be confused with Muskogee. Muskogee – Not to be
confused with Muskeegee. Well that clears that up. Known in the real world as Durango, Colorado.
New Echota – The capital of Sequoyah. Recently completed a railroad line passing through Texas and ending at the port of Houston. See Sequoyah Nouveau Orleans (New Orleans) – Owned by the French after being grudgingly traded back as payment for much needed Confederate war supplies. Not a popular decision, it sparked a minor war between Louisiana and the Confederacy. Texas took that opportunity to snap up a portion of western Louisiana.
Sequoyah – An independent nation consisting mainly of The Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole). It was founded after The Five Civilized Tribes were illegally forced out of their lands in the Eastern US resulting in the Trail of Tears. Located above the Republic of Texas roughly where Oklahoma is today, though with a few changes in border, Sequoyah is named in honor of the man who created the written Cherokee syllabary language in 1821 and was formally adopted in 1825. See New Echota Silver Town – A major town located to the northeast of the cauldron. It sits where Silverton, CO is today. The Cauldron – The default starting area for Aces & Eights campaigns. Properly called the Devil's Cauldron or Caldero del Diablo depending on your native language. The Cauldron encompasses parts of real world New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. Mexico claims ownership over the area where the Cauldron is located but has not taken significant action action to enforce its sovereignty. The Confederate States of
America - The southern states that seceded form the United States to form an independent nation. In the Aces & Eights timeline the secession sparked two civil wars which ended in stalemates and now an uneasy truce rests between the two nations. The Republic of Texas - An independent nation that was formerly Mexican territory. The Texans struck a deal with Mexico to keep both their land and their independence. The United States of
America - Kinda obvious, albeit considerably reduced in territory. Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier, Hackmaster and related indicia are copyright by Kenzer & Company. |
