The State Fair of Texas Livestock Department, Southwest Dairy Museum and Texas AgriLife Extension Service invite YOU to participate in a program focusing on agricultural education for urban youth. Kids & Critters aims to increase student's appreciation of agriculture in their lives. Target Audience Kids & Critters a free educational learning excursion for public and private schools in 2nd and 3rd grade attending school in Dallas County. Event Dates October 6 - 9, 2009 October 14 - 16, 2009 Scheduled tours start between 9:30 am and Noon, and are completed by 1:30 pm. All learning excursions last approximately one and a half hours (not including travel time). School groups may stay longer at the Fair to attend other programs. Cost There is NO ADMISSION CHARGE to participating schools, however, schools must provide their own transportation and lunch for the event. Kids & Critters confirmation packets will include complimentary bus parking and admission to the Fair grounds for all participating students, teachers and chaperons. Kid & Critter Learning Stations Students will be involved in critical listening and observation, the goal being to raise awareness and to create opportunities to think and discuss their roles in the world of agriculture. Kids & Critters complies with 2nd and 3rd grade TEKS. Educational Milking Parlor: Students will see milking demonstrations and learn about various types of dairy cattle. Just the Facts, Jack!: Experts explain the role of various farm animals. Trip to the Barnyard: Youth will receive hands-on interaction with farm animals.
