This site is will close. Please refer to the following site for all future Kibera Jewelry updates and products: www.kiberajewelry.com Kibera Bone Jewelry is a self-help group in Kibera, Kenya - Africa's second largest slum. There, Raphael Otieno leaves the slum at night to ask for discarded animal bones from nearby restaurants. From these bones, he and his group of community workers craft the bones into necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. This website shows 50 matched sets of jewelry. Kibera itself is 75% the area of Central Park in Manhattan, or about 630 acres. 1 million people live in an environment heavily polluted by soot, dust, and open sewage. There is poor nutrition, and death by disease and conflict. An estimated 1/2 the population has HIV. There are many widows and orphans. Slide 10 Your purchase of this handcrafted jewelry directly benefits the widows and orphans in Kibera. There is no middle-man. Thank you for your support.
