KHOJ
– The DA-IICT Theatre Group (DTG) was formed way back in September 2004. The
Buddhan Theatre Group of Chharanagar had performed a nukkad-naatak (street
play) called ‘Bhoma’ in August 2004 in the DA-IICT premises, after which
some interested individuals approached Daxin Bhai Chhara, the leader of the
Buddhan Theatre Group. They met a couple of times and came out with the idea of
doing a street play. A team was formed and 3 students of B.Tech 2003, Gaurav
Dobhal, Navin Michael and Shruti Garg scripted the first ever street play of
the group called ‘Khoj’. This was a hard-hitting play on issues of child abuse,
child trafficking and child labor. Daxin Bhai Chhara directed the play of the
duration of about 45 minutes. It was staged in the Open Air Theatre, DA-IICT
where it got rave reviews. The play was taken to MOOD INDIGO fest where it was
hugely appreciated. Thus, DTG was born.
In
3 years we have grown considerably, both in size and in excellence. We are
today an 80 member strong group consisting of budding talented individuals
raring to make a mark in theatrics. Today, we have the best of talents from DA-IICT, be it script-writers, the actors, the
directors or the stage-craft designers. All these work in unison to build
something that is called a PRODUCTION. We have had about 20 stage play
productions and 4 street play productions spanning various issues and genres. We
have performed in MOOD INDIGO and CHAOS, some of the biggest cultural festivals
in India.
Our productions were hugely appreciated by one and all. The past one year i.e.
2006-07 has been the most glorious year in the history of the group. Proscenium-the
stage play event in Synapse ’07 was one of the best events of the annual
carnival. As a matter of fact, the level of the event was one of the best in India,
comparable to MOOD INDIGO.
Continuing
on the path of glory, we realize that a lot more needs to be achieved. They say
that sky is the limit. We are also in process of going official. As a first
step we are formalizing ourselves with a brand name.
