CLASSROOM RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:

GRADES:  A  94-100%, B  87-93%, C  77-86%, D  66-76%, F  65% and below

English classes:  Spelling = 30%, Grammar tests = 30%, Grammar assignments = 20%, Class participation, compositions, speeches = 20%

Spanish classes:  Tests = 30%, Conversational Skits/Computer Lab work = 25%, Homework = 25%, Class work = 20%

TESTS:  Spelling tests for 6th grade are given on Wednesday of each week; spelling tests for 7th and 8th grade will be given on the last school day of each week.

Pop quizzes can be given at any time with no announcement to the class.

Tests are always announced at least one week in advance and material will be reviewed prior to that date.  Teachers do keep track of each others' testing dates on a chalkboard in the faculty room to avoid everyone testing on the same day.

ASSIGNMENTS:  All daily assignments and tests will be written in cursive, with pencil, and on 8½ x 11 inch filler paper only.  Five points will be deducted from the grade for each infraction.

A complete heading is required in the top, right-hand corner of all papers.  This includes name, class, date, and assignment.  Five points will be deducted from the grade for an incomplete heading; no grade will be given for an assignment without a name.

All final drafts of compositions will be written in cursive with blue or black ink and will be double-spaced with no writing on the backside of the paper.  Typing the composition in New Roman type of twelve or fourteen font, double-spaced, and on one side only is an acceptable alternative.  The Six Traits + 1 is the assessment method used to grade all compositions.  Any comnposition which is not written or typed in composition format as described above will lose all presentation points for the assignment.  This could vary from fourteen percent to fifty percent of the grade, depending on the number of writing traits on which the composition is being graded.

MATERIALS:  Students are expected to arrive in class on time and be seated, ready to begin class by the time the bell rings.  A student who is not in his/her seat with books open, assignments out, pencils sharpened, and voice off ready to begin when the bell rings, will be sent to the office for a tardy slip.

Students are expected to arrive with all books and materials needed for that class; they will not be allowed to leave the classroom to get forgotten books, materials, or assignments from their lockers or backpacks.

All homework is due on the assigned date.  No grade will be given on an assignment not turned in on the due date, except in event of an absence.  Extra time allowed for homwork in case of an absence will be determined on an individual basis with the student and me and will be determined by the extent of the illness.

Each student will be given the opportunity to earn up to three homework passes to be used in case an assignment is left at home, in the backpack, or eaten by the family pet.  These passes can only be used on a daily assignment worth twenty points or less and must be turned in when the missing assignment was due.  The passes are only valid for the quarter in which they were issued; unused passes can be turned in at quarter's end for twenty extra credit points each toward the class of the student's choice.
