ATTENTION August 2009:
Another year is in the books and the BRAWLER NATION continues to roll on! This was a pivotal year for the organization, not only on the mat but also off the mat! We have grown and flourished over the past 4 years and continue to incorporate new & exciting events into our club. What started out as a folkstyle dual team has become a multi-organizational enterprise. Our hope is to continue to grow and expand for 2009/10. Some events/plans we will incorporate are as follows:
- Incorporate Folk, Free, & Greco into our practices and competitions
- Host the 3rd Annual BRAWLER Team Duals (3rd year)
- Introduce the 1st Annual BRAWLER FreeStyle Team Duals
- Compete in the 2nd Annual Battle Rattle Team Duals @ Ft. Indiantown Gap (2nd year)
- Attend & compete in 3-4 FreeStyle Team Duals
- Compete @ the NHSCA East Coast Team Duals in Salisbury, MD (5th year)
- Host an open, KBWC Wrestling Camp over the summer months
All of this is possible and within our reach. The only thing missing is you! We hope to have each and every one of our wrestlers and coaches back with us next year....that's what this organization is about!
In closing, we would like to say "Thank You" to all those that support us and wish everyone a safe & successful season!
See you around the mats! B..B..BRAWLERS!!!

GENERAL TEAM INFORMATION:
The Keystone Brawlers will accept applications for the 2009/10 Club Team for FreeStyle Duals & NHSCA team (possible two High School teams) as necessary. Please be sure to apply early! The link below includes club and team information, as well as the application forms for the 2010 KEYSTONE BRAWLER Teams:
**2010 Team Info Letter Application - REVISED**
As the BRAWLER NATION continues to grow, it has become necessary to develop a "feeder" system in order to keep all of the current members on the team and allow for additional applicants to fill "gaps" in the lineups. Individuals who wrestle for the middle school team will move up (based on grade or need) to compete for the Brawlers-Black high school team or, if necessary or deserved, move up to the Brawlers - Gold high school team. Additional applicants will then be selected based upon team need.
TEAM SELECTION PROCESS:
HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS - GOLD / BLACK / XS:
Brawlers-Black will be comprised of individuals from the BLACK & WHITE HS teams during the past season, individuals moving up from the middle school team (unless notified otherwise), and those applicants selected for the team. Those who competed for the team in 2009 and who will be in 9th grade will still need to apply. This high school team will compete in selected dual competitions, the 2010 BRAWLERS Team Duals, the 2010 BRAWLERS FreeStyle Team Duals, and in the 2010 NHSCA East Coast Duals held in Salisbury, MD.
Brawlers - Gold will be comprised of individuals from the 2009 GOLD high school team and those applicants selected for the team. Those who competed for the BLACK & WHITE HS teams during the past season, and who will be in 9th- 12th grade, will need to apply. This high school team will compete in several dual competitions, the 2010 BRAWLERS Team Duals, the 2010 BRAWLERS FreeStyle Team Duals, and in the 2010 NHSCA East Coast Duals held in Salisbury, MD.
Brawlers - XS will be comprised of individuals who wish to compete in FreeStyle & Greco-Roman team/individual competitions. This team will compete in FS/GR competitions as individuals & as a team. We will accept up to 2 applicants per wt. class. Also, this team will have a different practice schedule than the BLACK/GOLD team. Thus, if you would like to be considered for both squads (i.e. GOLD and XS), you will be committing to 2 different teams and 2 different schedules. Initially, we plan to attend 3-4 FS/GR qualifiers (USA WRESTLING), 3-4 FS Team Duals (including hosting our own), and competing at the PAWF FS/GR State tournament to qualify for Cadet/Junior Nationals.
Coach's Corner:
2009
Note from Coach Donnelly (May 2009): The 2nd Annual BRAWLER Team Duals was a success! KB GOLD wrestled to a 3-1 record and 3rd place finish. KB Black wrestled very well and showed that they will have success in Salisbury, reaching a 3-2 record on the day. KB White battled hard with a lot of heart, but inexperience seemed to be the biggest setback for the team as they went a respectable 1-3 on the day. Congratulations to all who participated and to the select few who went UNDEFEATED on the day:
Colten Keck (4-0), Bubba McGinley (5-0), Evan Baer (2-0), Marvin Gaskill (4-0)
Note from Coach Donnelly (April 2009): The BRAWLER NATION takes the next step into the Freestyle Team Duals @ The Hill School...and finished 4-0 as a team.
- The BRAWLERS won 4 hard-fought duals in their first freestyle team duals.
- Individuals - Colten Keck (112): 4-0; Wyatt Keck (119): 3-1; Alex Crown (125): 3-1; Nick Blasone (130): 4-0 *with a 5pt touch fall*; Tyler Small (135/140): 4-0; Jayshon Wilson (145): 4-0; Evan Baer (152/160): 4-0; JoJo Mandrusiak (171): 4-0; Matt Wolfe (215): 4-0; Gavin Nickel (285): 3-1.
- Due to injuries and other committments, we as a team decided to forgo the final dual vs APACHE and took 2nd in the team duals.
- Great job guys!!!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2008
Note from Coach Donnelly (August 2008): The BRAWLER NATION once again has surpassed expectations and moved forward!
- We entered 3 teams in the 1st Annual BRAWLERS Team Duals and came away with a 2nd place finish (BRAWLERS - GOLD), losing a hard-fought match to STEEL GOLD.
- Our teams showed courage and were very competitive at the NHSCA National Duals in Salisbury. The MS team fielded a very young team, and took home some worthwhile experience. Although short-handed, BRAWLERS WHITE showed class and had some outstanding individual matches. BRAWLERS BLACK surprised some teams, winning 3 matches and losing some close bouts. BRAWLERS GOLD barely missed the Dual Tournament (by 1 point). It was a tough weekend, but should prove worthwhile come next season!
- The BRAWLERS took 2 teams to the 2008 DISNEY Duals. BRAWLERS BLACK had a tough week, but everyone on the team wrestled well and gained some outstanding experience! BRAWLERS GOLD wrestled extremely well and won over 60% of their bouts/matches. BRAWLERS GOLD ended the week-long event in 12th place nationally (out of 40 teams). Great job guys!
Overall, the BRAWLER NATION proved we belong in the big events, and will continue to grow! We should be very proud of our accomplishments and look to our upcoming MS/HS seasons to show what we have learned. Each off-season brings you one step closer to your goals...State Medals! This quote summerizes what we all should have learned this season..."A man has 3 names: the name he inherits, the name his parents give him, and the name he makes for himself!" See you all around the mats...-Coach Donnelly
Note from Coach Donnelly (April 2008): The BRAWLER NATION is in full force and continues to grow. We have doubled our numbers from last year and it is with great pride that I thank you all! Each year brings new and exciting obstacles, and we continue to prevail! We are hosting our first duals tournament, attending the Disney Duals, and will be returning to the New Jersey Open Duals to defend our title! Be assured, with our growing success, we now must take the next step! Our goals this year are to advance 1 team to the NHSCA Dual tournament semi-finals; qualify 2 teams for the NHSCA Dual tournament; win 60%+ of our matches at Disney; and to repeat as New Jersey Open Duals champs! Each year, we surpass our goals...can we do it again??? It's all up to you...
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2007
Note from Coach Donnelly (June 2007): I would like to thank the parents, coaches, & wrestlers for another EXCITING year! We have established this team as one that cannot be overlooked by others! Through hard work, determination, and working as a cohesive team, the BRAWLER NATION continues to grow! I am excited for next year and hope each wrestler continues to participate for this team. I have made the commitment to each of you that as long as you want to be a Brawler, there will always be a spot on this team for you. This team signifies what can happen when a group of determined individuals set forth to accomplish one goal and work hard to attain it! I hope you too will continue to support this team! It is my belief that if this group continues to work together, we will continue to make noise at every event we attend! To end, I have heard a quote that I think summarizes what the BRAWLER NATION really stands for...."WARS MAY COME AND GO, BUT MY SOLDIERS STAY ETERNAL!" - Coach Donnelly

NEWS September 2007: The KEYSTONE BRAWLERS Wrestling Teams will be adding Sponsors for the 2007/2008 Season. As the costs to compete continue to rise year after year, and the BRAWLER NATION continues to grow, we have come to a point where sponsorship is necessary. The BRAWLERS will have three teams competing this year (1 middle school & 2 high school teams). If you, your company, etc. wish to sponsor any/all of the teams, please email your information to the following address: KeystoneBrawlers@Hotmail.com. Additional information can/will be made available to those who submit Sponsorship Requests.
NEWS August 2007: The BRAWLERS entered the 2007 Jersey Shore National Open held in Elizabeth, NJ. For this event, the "regular" team was unable to compete as a whole, so the team was comprised of several BRAWLERS from the 2007 NHSCA Team including Joseph Spisak, Ty Thumma, David Rattay, Jayshon Wilson, Devin O'Brien, & Evan Baer and, as there were several open spots, the team needed to add some other individuals from the area in order to field a competitive entry (Colten Keck, Andrew Rentzel, Nick Blasone, Dakota Kuhn, Kyle Flohr, Derek Schmelyun, Gary Lantz, Justin Louden, Aaron Sandel, Dylan Ferguson, Dale Nichols, Travis Empson, and Jeremy Starner). As the AMERICAN Division was the "small school division" and this was our first visit to the tournament, along with the fact that this BRAWLER team was comprised of 90% small school wrestlers (some who have little or no experience), the team entered this division.
The team captured the AMERICAN Division Team Championship, defeating Long Branch by a score of 48-19 in the finals. Individual records included Colten Keck 7-1, Andrew Rentzel 5-3, Joseph Spisak 6-2, Ty Thumma 7-1, Nick Blasone 6-2, David Rattay 5-1, Jayshon Wilson 7-1, Devin O'Brien 3-1, Dakota Kuhn 5-1, Evan Baer 4-2, Kyle Flohr 0-3, Derek Schmelyun 4-3, Gary Lantz 4-2, Justin Louden 0-4, Aaron Sandel 8-0, Dylan Ferguson 0-5, Dale Nichols 5-2, Travis Empson 0-6, & Jeremy Starner 0-1.
Overall, the team was 6-2, losing two duals on Saturday to Lewis County, NY (NATIONAL Division Team Champs) and Team OLYMPIC. For the dual tournament held on Sunday, the BRAWLERS downed Sayresville in a close 35-34 prelim bout; upset a tough Raritan, NJ team in the quarters 44-21; and fought off a balanced Holy Cross team in the semis 48-27 to make the finals. It was a rough two day event but the team pushed through and came out on top. Congratulations and thank you all for representing the BRAWLER NATION well!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWS May 2007: The BRAWLERS were represented at the NHSCA National Open Wrestling Championships held in Myrtle Beach, SC. Ty Thumma came away with a well-earned 2nd place finish. Ty went 4-1 in this grueling two day event. Congratulations and thank you for representing the BRAWLER NATION well!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
