Kevin Lauriault was discovered to have PKD (polycystic kidney disease) when he was seven years old. During a regular check-up the doctor found a fist-sized cyst on his kidney. It was immediately removed, but he had many smaller cysts that could not be removed without damage to his kidneys. The doctor said Kevin might not make it to age 30. He is 32 now. His kidneys are only functioning at around 10%. He needs a transplant. It has been a long process and it's far from over. After all of Kevin's test results were finally in and the doctors at MUSC approved him for a kidney transplant, Kevin was put on the kidney transplant list on January 3, 2008. On November 19, 2007, he had the fistula procedure done in preparation for dialysis should he go into kidney failure. However, we are hoping a kidney can be donated before he goes into kidney failure and has to have dialysis. So we are looking for a kidney. Kevin's father (Ed), oldest sister
(Ruth), and cousin (Sarah) have been tested as possible donors. Ed doesn't have
the right blood type. (Kevin is 0 positive.) Ruth was a match but one of her
kidneys is too small. Sarah's kidneys are also too small. Kevin's wife (Rebecca)
and other 2 sisters have the wrong blood type. So we continue to look for a
donor. Lucia Miles (Living Donor Coordinator at MUSC - Medical University of
South Carolina) The Elders and Deacons of our church have established a fund for Kevin's
transplant expenses. They call it "Kevin's Fund" and anyone can contribute by
making a check out to "Greenville Christian Fellowship" and writing "Kevin's
Fund" on the memo line. It will be tax-deductible and 100% of it will go to
Kevin. Send it to: Most of all, we covet your prayers. Thank you and God bless you! Sincerely, The Lauriault Family |
