KESHER Leadership Council and LTS Coordinating Council

KESHER Leadership Council
What is the KESHER Leadership Council?
The KESHER Leadership Council consists of five college students representing the interests of Reform students on campus at the North American level. These students are recognized leaders in their campus Chavurah, have a strong connection to Reform Judaism, and have a motivation to involve Reform students in Jewish life on campus. The Leadership Council members are responsible for planning North American programs such as the Leadership Training Seminar. For more information about the KESHER Leadership Council, please feel free to contact any Leadership Council Member, or e-mail KESHER at kesher@urj.org.

What Does The Council Do?
The 2008 - 2009 KESHER Student Leadership Council is working on a variety of projects to better connect with Reform students on campus. This year, the KESHER Council is pleased to announce the formation of four committees, composed of students from across North America.  Committee project areas include: Communications, Conferences (LTS), Israel, and Outreach.  For more information, please visit our page on KESHER Student Committees.

Kelly Biedinger – University of Alabama
Kelly Biedinger is a junior hailing from the true Southern football school, the University of Alabama; studying Restaurant and Hospitality Management and Religious Studies, she hopes to obtain a career working for a religious organization as their meetings/conventions organizer. She is actively involved in Jewish life on campus, including Hillel, KESHER, Alabama Friends of Israel, and her sorority, Sigma Delta Tau. After being involved for many, many years with NFTY, she spent this past summer at the lovely Kutz Campus for Reform Jewish Teen Life as a Resident Advisor. This year she looks forward to working with Caitlin on what will be a great LTS!

Danny Moss – Oberlin College
Danny feels privileged to be a part of this year’s KLC. He is a senior at Oberlin College, where he is a double major in Jewish Studies and Religion. He aims to end his college career by pursuing an honors thesis in Jewish Mysticism. Danny is a member of the URJ Junior-Senior High School Committee, and he has been at URJ Camp OSRUI since summer 1995. Most recently he has worked as a songleader and counselor; during his first summer, though, he was a camper in Kallah Aleph with Traci Stratford. Danny spent a formative Junior year of college in Israel; you should ask him about it! In his free time, he enjoys tennis, Chipotle, and dental hygiene—but his main passion is music.

Caitlin Smith is a junior Special Education major at The University of Texas at Austin. She was a songleader in 2006-2007 and was the T’fillah Coordinator in 2008 at the URJ Greene Family Camp. She was the cantorial soloist for Temple Beth-El in San Antonio this past year, has been actively involved in her college Kesher and worship services, and looks forward to continuing her Jewish leadership through Kesher Student Leadership Counsel. Traci Stratford - Indiana University
Traci is a senior at Indiana University-Bloomington and currently serving  a second year on the leadership council. She is studying Jewish Studies and Nonprofit Management. Traci has spent many summers at OSRUI, as both a camper (Kallah Aleph ‘95 with Danny) and as a staff member.  At IU, she is a leader at Hillel, the MASA Campus Representative, intern for the Jewish Studies Program and President of the Jewish Studies Student Association. Traci is also very involved with IU’s Dance Marathon–which last year raised more than $1 million for the Riley Children’s Hospital in Indy as well as her sorority, Phi Mu. When she is not in a meeting or studying at the library, she enjoys painting, Guster, partaking in the IU social scene, reading Cosmo and Facebook stalking (sad, but true). Traci is really looking forward to a great year as the council’s Israel chair!
