JACOB POHLSANDER
Tutor
Well, I heard about Green Theatre from my
friend Jenny Dunne and straight away volunteered to help with the music
workshops for Lord of the Rings. At that time we were singing together in the
Ahmadi Music Group, which was doing a concert version of “West Side Story”.
Later Jenny and I would star in the Ahmadi Music Group's production of “The
Mikado”, which both of us had a blast doing, seeing that we had to play
characters that were almost three times our age! I was very new to Kuwait having only just arrived from the United States a
couple months before Jenny invited me to volunteer for Green Theatre.
Here is a little more about me: I guess you
could say I was born a singer. I’ve always loved singing; in fact the happiest
moments of my life have been while I was either singing or on the big stage. In
school, I enjoyed drama and choir. For the rest of my school life I was always
a drama geek. One time for all of my electives, I took only drama classes. At
ten I joined the Phoenix Boys Choir and sang with them for 7 years during that
time I was able to travel all over the US and go on a European tour.
At first I was only going to be helping with
the music workshops, but soon it became more like a routine to go to KES and go
down to the drama studio just to participate in a lot of the workshops. Soon I
ended up becoming part of the back stage crew, opening and closing the
curtains, making sure that everyone was quiet and where they were supposed to
be. Also, fake-playing a violin which was actually a Viola with no strings and
a broken bow, as well as transforming into an orc (backstage mind you), and
getting killed twice - first getting chopped up by Gimli’s axe, and then
dramatically dying during the final fighting scene. By the way, having to wear
layers the whole time during a performance really kills, especially having to
be backstage the whole time (the things I have to do for my acting career!).
I must say that I really enjoyed working with
such talented teenagers. The most fun I had had been during the music and the
stage fighting workshops. Such a wonderful exuberance radiates from all of the
students when they are doing something that they enjoy. I hope our next show
will be just as spectacular as Lord of the Rings was.

The guy who memorises everyone’s lines (because he’s a drama geek), sings
non-stop, and goofs off whenever he can.
