Once upon a time, an unemployed military wife found herself with nothing but a computer and a NaNoWriMo challenge. A month later, her house was a mess, her family was unfed, but the first draft of her first novel was done. And, tragically, she'd caught the bug. Kersley (kurz'-lee) came to writing in a round-about way. She skipped English in college, settling instead for a degree in engineering she never used and a short Air Force career she was horrible at. She then followed her husband, an Air Force officer, around the country, undertaking adventures with both success (drafting) and miserable failure (surfing). In 2003, they adopted a boy from Thailand who provides opportunities to say things like, "Don't grab the dog's lips," and "Why did you put a sandwich down the heat vent?" "The Boy" has learned to put up with his mother's writing addiction. Her husband, however, supports her whole-heartedly. As long as he isn't required to read any of it. (As a Louis L'Amour fan, he doesn't really see the point of a book without a good horse, a fast gun, and a plucky Irish girl trying to save the family ranch from a dastardly villain. Unfortunately, those elements aren't too common in science fiction.) Alas, Kersley is seemingly unable to write anything but science fiction and the odd fantasy story. Most of her writing has Christian elements. She tries to fit Biblical basics into science fiction worlds. Not always easy, but, like many engineers, she likes puzzles and doesn't shy away from limiting factors. She now lives in Colorado Springs (home of 90% of all hopeful Christian writers) with the aforementioned husband and child, as well as The World's Most Neurotic Dog (TM).
