Ken Pendergast is a Philadelphia-based professional musician, composer and producer. Performing internationally, Pendergast is heard in prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center and the Sydney Opera House, as well as renowned jazz festivals in Tokyo, Newport, Montreal, Montreux and Nice. He performs and has recorded with Melody Gardot, tU pHAce, Musiqology, Ralph Bowen, Aaron Parks and Phil Roy among many others. As a session bassist, Pendergast is regularly in the studio recording jazz, pop, R & B, rock and hip-hop, and is often called to venture into genres as varied as Haitian rock and Indian pop. Working as music director for Universal artist Melody Gardot, Pendergast writes arrangements and performs upright bass, eight-string guitar and percussion. His music director credits also include Philadelphia’s Hip-Hop band, The Hustle and Pendergast’s previous project the Monday Quintet. His production credits include co-producer of the Chuck Staab Group’s Water Prayer, assistant producer and artistic advisor of Fadism’s The Conversation and sequencing and programming for Tangible Truth’s second release. Pendergast was a featured composer in Jazziz Magazine’s October 2006 issue and his composition “Minor Progress” was chosen for the corresponding CD. Additionally, Pendergast was co-composer of the original production of the break-dance musical From tha Hip, which world premiered at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia in September 2006. Pendergast holds a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges and a Masters in Music in jazz studies from the University of the Arts, where he was the 2005 recipient of the Jazz Master Award.
