Whale Talk Essay 3rd Draft
"I can't say how much I want to mix it up; how much I wanted to feel my knuckles buried in the cartilage of his nose, see blood splattered on the lockers" (Crutcher 113). T.J. was a unique boy going to Cutter High who did a very peculiar deed. The Tao Jones is a multi-racial boy (Asian, African-American, and North European) going to Cutter High School in Washington. He is a hot-headed kid who had a bad bio-mom and stands up for what he believes in. His bio-mom always left him alone n the car for hours and days while strange men went in and out of his house. T.J. was a brave kid because he could be a great hotshot football player, but instead gives that up to be friends with all the "different" people and to protect them from people like Mike Barbour. He is strong in what he believes in and never backs down from a fight. Although though the ending was a little sad for him, he was happy because he put those other kids who were on the swim team first and thought more about taking care of them instead of himself. T.J. won in the end even though his dad died and he didn't get a letter jacket. He still got all those other kids the letter jackets, and that is what he wanted to accomplish in the first place. What T.J. did paid off in the end, at least in his perspective and probably some other perspectives too. The Tao did a very good deed; humbling himself under the kids who needed to be raised higher up so they could believe in themselves. Especially Chris Coughlin, with whom he became friends with, pushed him to the swimming team and got him a letter jacket. He could be proud of wearing that jacket and not be picked on because he knew he earned it and he did not have to use his brothers. "If it kills Barbour to see a guy as far out of the mainstream as Chris is, wearing a letter jacket that doesn't belong to him, how far up his nose will it get when he sees him wearing one that does belong to him wearing one that does belong to him?" (Crutcher 16) T.J.'s very first goal was to get Chris his own jacket after Chris was picked on by the football players for wearing his dead brother's jacket. What T.J. is fighting for is very noble because he is humbling himself below the strangest kids at his school and making them feel higher. Anyone who has the courage to do that is a great person. With those kinds of actions, anyone with his characteristics would not lose at the end no matter how it ended up, as long as what he fought for in the first place was completed. The Tao definitely did not regret his actions in the end even though his father died and he did not get a letter jacket. "Some positive things have come of this of all this." (Crutcher 176) Anyone would regret that ending because their father died, but there would be a little glimmer of success in that pool of overwhelming sadness. His success was that he had helped those kids get there letter jackets and he had raised them to a point of recognition in the school, but that glimmer would be very faint because of the infinite black hole of my despair. But The Tao Jones felt success in what he did, helping secure Alicia and her kids from Rich Marshall and giving those few kids some hope. T.J. won his original plan, to give the far out kids a jacket, in the end. Under his view, T.J. had a win in the end. He gave his best and got was he was trying to achieve and more in the end. Although he did lose a few parts of his life that he may have wanted, he secured Alicia and her kids in his home, got a job offer from his step brother in New Meadows, and gave those kids a letter jacket to annoy the football studs like Barbour. Even though he lost his dad he still did not care, he just accepted the fact that his dad was dead and did not even care what happened to Rich. "I didn't go to the trial. To tell the truth, I really didn't care how it turned out. I don't know what's the matter with me, but they could have let him off and I don't think I'd have felt a thing. All I know is my dad is dead. And that's all I care about." (Crutcher 175) T.J. saw losing his dad as just another part of life, nothing really different, and he did not care what would happen to the man who killed him. The Tao's actions where brave, he did not regret the way any of them turned out, and he found them a success in the end. If anyone could meet T.J., that person probably would like him. His bravery, experiences, and willingness to stand up for what he believes in would show in his conversation. He was audacious and not ignorant in his actions to help the lower kids of Cutter High School to get more proud. He did not regret any of his actions nor did he regret what they produced in the end because he was proud of himself. He had no humility in what the aftermath of the swim team was, T.J. would definitely count that as a win. First of all he completed what he set out for and second, even though the negative sides of the outcome were capacious and grim, his view of the glorious light of the positive outcomes were greater. I believe The Tao Jones was noble and successful in what he did and anyone would concur with his thoughts of efficacious conquest in the consummation. Whale Talk Essay 2nd Draft
