  • In math we have been learning about geometry and shapes.
  • Making Meaning and guided reading have been going very well.  The students will continue learning how to make inferences about characters in stories.  They did a wonderful job with making connections and visualizing.  Please encourage your child to read A.R. books and take accelerated reader tests.  Setting weekly goals can help your child reach higher reading levels!

October has arrived and with it we have started learning many new and exciting things in room 15.  We have been learning about ancient Egypt.  We will also be studying ancient China in the upcoming weeks.  The students have been assigned an Egypt project that is due on October 30th.  Please assist your child with this project, but please keep in mind this is their project and their work.  Refer to the grading rubric for grading guidelines.  We have started our guided reading groups and the students are working very hard everyday.  They are becoming experts at the Daily 5.  They are working on their stamina and fluency everyday.  Ask them about their favorite part of the Daily 5! In math we have been working on addition and subtraction strategies and story problems.  Soon we will be focusing on place value, coin combinations, time to the half-hour, equivalent names, frames and arrows problems, and tally marks.  Our next unit in science will be on changing seasons.  Ask your child about using the laptops in the classroom.  We will be making a switch and start using them on Fridays.
