Graduate Colloquium in Biblical and Early Christian Studies

This small seminar meets at Keble College on alternate Wednesdays over breakfast in Hall (8.15-9.45 a.m., beginning in Week 2), to discuss issues and texts in the development of biblical and early Christian faith and practice.  Please feel free to contact me for further details.

The topical focus varies, but may include
  • Jewish or early Christian primary sources
  • Classic or important recent publications
  • Research in progress by members of the group.
Suggestions for future work are always welcome. A small archive of past programmes is being developed here

2011-2012

All three terms this academic year will be devoted to ancient and medieval commentaries on selected passages in the gospel of John.  The Colloquium will be jointly led by Prof. Markus Bockmuehl and Dr David Lincicum.

The first meeting will again be over breakfast at Keble College Hall at 8.15 a.m. on Wednesday 19th October.  An introduction and overview of the year's programme (DL) will be followed by a brief overview of contemporary interpretation of the Fourth Gospel (with special reference to the selected passages: 1.1-5, 14-18; 10.29-30; 15.26).

The Schedule for the year begins in the second century with the earliest known commentators on John. Detailed instructions for meetings and assigned readings can be found  here.  For general reading on the subject, see the bibliography below.
