World History I:

World History I is a survey course for 9th grade students. They will study the history of ancient civilizations to modern day, including culture, the belief systems, and the geography of five regions-Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, and Latin America-from a global perspective. The course emphasizes the historic themes of imperialism, colonization, nationalism, and independence movements.  Attendance and Tardies

It is important students attend class everyday and are on time. When students are not here they miss out on valuable work time. Consequences for Breaking Class and School Rules apply to tardies!

 Expectations for Academic Success

 ·         Supplies: Each student needs to bring a three ringed binder with dividers, lined paper, a pencil, an eraser, a blue or black pen, and covered textbook to class every day.

·         Organization: Each student must keep a divider in their notebook for his or her Health/World History class. At the front he or she will keep a daily assignment sheet with graded assignments in order behind it.

·         Homework and Assignments: Late homework is not accepted! It is the student’s responsibility to get work missed before or after the day of absence. Students have the number of days absent to make up the missed work. Students may check my website or see classroom calendar for missed work. Please get missed work from me at lunch, before, or after school.

·         Community Service: All ninth grade students are required to do ten hours of community service. This will be assigned in October and due in the spring.

·         History Day: All ninth grade students are required to participate in a History Day Project. This will be an ongoing project through first semester.

Grading Policy

Students will earn points for every assignment completed as well as for good participation/behavior. Homework is due at the beginning of the period. Homework will not be accepted from students who are tardy to class. Students’ grades will be divided by the following: classwork/homework/projects 70%, Quizzes and tests 20%, and participation/behavior 10%. Grades will be assigned according to the percentage of points earned out of how many points are possible. Extra credit is given after regular assignments have been completed.

 A=90%-100%

B=80%-89%

C=70%-79%

D=60%-69%

F=50%-59%

Students grades are available on ABI which can be accessed through the VUSD Parent Portal at www.RBVHS.org  website. Parents are strongly urged to get their passwords. I will also be sending home grade printouts every three weeks. Students need to return this signed by a parent if earning less than a C, 70% grade. Failure to do so will result in loss of points and parent contact.
