Basic Information

This year is KDDC Science Department's inaugural year for taking a trip of this scale to the Smoky Mountains.  We are taking a three day trip to the Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont just outside of Townsend, TN.  On this trip the students will be engaged with hands-on, minds-on activities that will reconnect them with the world around them.  Science teachers from the school as well as highly-trained teacher naturalists on staff will guide the students through the splendors of the natural world.  I invite everyone to take a look at the GSMIT website to learn more about this wonderful organization.

The trip, open to a handful of 7th and 8th graders, will depart very early on Wednesday, October 26 and return on Friday, October 28 in the mid-/late afternoon.  In order to attend this trip, a student must submit a completed application found in the resources section of this website and a fee of $230  no later than October 3rd.  If you would like to attend, but don't have the full deposit on the first collection day (Sept. 15), then you can submit a non-refundable deposit of $50 to save your spot in the event that we book up.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let one of the science teachers know of any concerns you may have.

Parents of students attending, we will have two information meetings (time TBA) in early October to further discuss the fine details of the trip.  (What to bring/What NOT to bring, etc)
