Toddler Program

Classroom Highlights

May was a wonderful month to have fun while learning about nature! The toddlers have learned a lot about gardens; including things that grow and things that fly around – like birds, caterpillars and butterflies. As we look forward to summer, we hope to learn even more about the things that grow in all of our gardens.

The toddlers have taken many adventures outside to learn about the variety of plants that grow in the gardens like flowers and vegetables. We looked at the blossoming of spring. We took care of our garden with watering cans. We planted real flowers for our moms and filled a real bird feeder with seed. We had fun wrapping a toy caterpillar to sleep in a cocoon and finding it had changed into a butterfly. We danced with wings of real feathers and butterfly streamers on our arms.

Our classroom theme for June is “Ocean”. The toddlers will explore the wonders of the sea and the shore, its beaches, shells, and birds. We will listen to the rhythmic sound of waves and dive into the waves; pretend to surf, sail and scuba dive. We will meet some ocean life like sea turtles, starfish and whales as well as examine a mini aquarium. The children will develop their language and literacy skills reading books related to the theme including, What lives in the shell?, Commotion in the Ocean, and Mister Seahorse.  The children will enjoy learning new songs such as, “I’m a little fishy” and “Five Little Fish in the Sea.” The toddlers will have a blast on our “Beach Party” where the children and teachers will get dressed up in their beach-wear and splash in the water. The toddlers will be enjoying some “Water Days” throughout the summer. Please bring in a towel, swimsuit, and water shoes so your child can enjoy playing in the water with their friends. Please leave these items in your child’s cubby as our water days are weather dependent and not always on planned days.

Remember that the toddlers love to have families participate in our classroom. Please talk with the toddler staff if you would like to sign-up to come read a story to the toddler class. The time will be 3:15-4:15. The sign-up is on the parent board. Thank you.
