Web 2.0

Web 2.0 refers to the strength of the world wide web and is able to use these as its base. These tools build features and services around the suites the Internet provides.  Web 2.0 is new means for sharing information through social networking, collaboration, and other various outlets.  Allowing you to do much more than simply retrieve information, Web 2.0 allows users to run numerous software programs through a single web browser. the two tools I chose to view are Shopnics and Pho.to. I had never used either site before, but I found each of them sparked my interst.

Shopnics, located at http://www.shopnics.com/ , is an online shopping center where you can find electronic products based on what you need, apply the site's "smart filters" and see the effect on all products, look at reviews, specification, and product videos, compare all products at one place to others, and overall, get the top deal you deserve.  To use the site, you simply choose from the list of electronic products you wish to browse, or search until you find your desired product.  Next, the site will automatically produce a decision graph with a variety of popular choices of the product. You can use this graph to make better decision before purchasing. You can also specify the product details you wish to have and the website will filter your search. Finally, once you have made a wise decision and found the product  you like, you can purchase your product here. I have recently been in the market for a new cell phone, and I have been browsing this category for information and a possible purchase option. For all my electronic products in the future I will surely refer to this site before I do any purchasing.

I also chose Pho.to, which can be found at http://pho.to/. Pho.to is an online tool that allows you to enhance photos on your computer with edit tools that can be accessed with a single click of your mouse. You may also apply artistic effects and share your photos with the entire world wide web, either in 3D or flas animations. You can use the online Photo editor for free, simply by visiting the site and clicking "Edit and play with photos online!" (You may also use enhancement tools offline, but these cannot be shared on the web). Next, you browse your photos and slect the ones you wish to work with. The next steps are simple: you can rotate and crop, apply animation effects, automatically correct photos, or enhance portraits. I always tend to have red eyes in my pictures, so I could definitely see myself using this site to correct my pictures. I would also like to make onlin albums of my pictures so I could share them with others on the web. An example of an online album can be viewed at http://strahinja.pho.to/albums/cucici/ .

After viewing the sites and setting up directions for my family to view them, I sent links for my dad and sister to visit the web pages. My sister loved Shopnics, seeing as how she and her husband are determined to stay on the cutting edge of technology and are constantly ordering products online. She found the decision graphs very helpful in comparing product price and quality. She liked the idea of Pho.to, but she fails to take many pictures (even though she has a brand new camera), so this particular site didn't pertain to her as much as my dad. He loved Pho.to because he is constantly taking tons of pictures at all family occasions. He liked playing around with the pictures and adding funny captions and animations. He also enjoyed viewing Shopnics, because when he does invest in a piece of technology, he wants to make sure he is getting a good deal. He saw that by using this website he can find and compare prices for thousands of locations with a single click of his mouse.

In class I created a Google Map of Bainbridge, GA, my hometown. It was absoloutely amazing to see how far technology has come in that my house and several other personal landmarks were easily located on the site. I enjoyed exploring the different photos of Bainbridge and seeing satellite views of interesting places. It was difficult to believe that as rural as Bainbridge is, it was still on here! My map can be located at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=us&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=109737033295796496546.000461f3b6569885aa240&z=12 .
