My name is Katie Jo Green and I currently a junior at the University of Georgia, majoring in Middle School Education with an emphasis in Math and Social Studies. Athens has been quite an adjustment for me, seeing as how I am from a very small town in south Georgia. I grew up in Bainbridge, a rural community thirty minutes north of the Florida line. Hesitant about attending such a large univeristy, I certainly had my doubts; however, it has turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Since I began classes here at the University of Georgia, I have joined the Sigma Phi chapter of Kappa Delta sorority and been actively involved in several community activities. Through Kappa Delta I have had the opportunity of working with an Athens Girl Scout troop, Dance Marathon, UGA Miracle, and UGA Heroes, each beneffiting a local or national charity organization.
When I am not involved in community work or busy with university classes, I enjoy reading works of Agatha Christie and Deen Koontz. When I truly enjoy a book, I usually find myself finishing it within a few days; all good works make you want to read them. When I'm not curled up on the couch with a good mystery, I can be found in the kitchen, decked out in my personalized apron and oven mits. Yes, I love to bake. Since I was a small child, sweets have been my vice. In high school, I decided to take up baking, under the instruction of my aunt. A few short years later I have found myself creating various concoctions, all of which my friends and family seem to enjoy...as long as chocolate is the main ingredient. Overall, I consider myself a simple person: a southerner dedicated to education, service, and life in general.
