In her spare time, Katherine enjoys swimming, kayaking, hiking, movies, reading, arts and crafts, and playing with images. She was a photographer (and later an expedition leader)
for the University of Hong Kong China Education Association (a
student run and HK government registered charity). Years ago, Katherine went to
Hunan, China in their annual expeditions to research
on village education as well as monitor their funding program which
subsidizes over 400 elementary school children. The
photographs Katherine took, with the permission of the villagers, were
used in public exhibitions, publications, and Hong Kong school visits
for fund-raising as well as for raising public awareness on education
issues in China. Other design works that Katherine did include NWAV33 website and publicity material for the "Multilingual Hong Kong" film series.
Katherine
has worked as a volunteer for various community organizations such as St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Safe House (Domestic Violence Project, Inc.), and Michigan Siamese Rescue (Animal Rescue) in the US; YWCA
Western District Social Service Centre, Hong Kong Reads program, and the Society for Community
Organization (香港社區組織協會) in Hong Kong.
