Size F hook
DK or Worsted yarn (or both) in black, white, and choice of “filling” colors
Yarn needle
Gauge is not important - For mine, I used WW yarn for all but the white, which was DK. Using this pattern, I ended up with a sushi roll that was one inch long by one inch wide, and four inches around. Change hook size or yarn weight to get a different size!
2 rows filling 1
2 rows filling 2
12 rows white
8 rows black
Row 1: Chain 7, DC in 3rd ch from hook, DC across, ch 2, turn
Row
2: DC across to end, switch colors, ch 2, turn (you should have 4 DC
plus the turning chain at the end of each row. 5 DC total)
Row
3-24: = DC across to end, ch 2, turn = (repeat from = to =, switching
colors as indicated, until you reach the end of the 24th row)
End of row 24: Do not ch 2. Finish off, leaving a long tail.
Weave in and cut excess yarns from the color changes, then roll up the sushi. Don’t pull it out of shape, but try to get it fairly tight. Thread the final yarn tail through the yarn needle and sew up the sushi, connecting black to black. Once you’ve sewn the “seam”, you can go back and sew through the middle of the sushi once or twice (from one side through to the other side) to hold everything together. Secure the yarn and sew through the middle of the sushi once more, cutting the yarn close to the other side. Squish the roll around a little to pull the end up into the middle where it’s not visible.
String
some ribbon or contrasting yarn under one of the outer DCs to use as a
hanger, or leave plain if you’re making a bunch for a table decoration.
