“DHEE”: The Essence of Hinduness (Part I) AUGUST 15, 2009 by Shreekumar Vinekar In this age of world domination by “Go to Hell” religions based on colossal myths and gigantic superstitions, the “population targeted to go to hell” has an obligation to examine the basic premises of their own spiritual heritage. These people who are condemned to “go to hell” by the currently dominating religions of the world are the so called “pagans,” and “heathens,” believed to be and described as polytheistic, pantheistic, monotheistic or atheistic Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, and others practicing Wicca, Zen Buddhism, Shintoism, Taoism, Native American, Baha’i, Zoroastrians, etc., collectively named “non-believers” or “infidels” (Quafars). Many of these are elders, like the Jewish, originating long before the beginning of this Common Era 2000 years ago. These elders, though many are religious and devout in their own frames of mind, have been bullied through inquisitions for the last two millennia by the aggressive proselytizing empire building religions that originated, developed, and were propagated only in the last two millennia. Although it may be claimed that conversions at sword point or gun point or under the threat of torture or murder or other coercions is not prevalent in the twenty first century, mass conversions under allurements, duress or deceit is an order of the day supported and heavily financed by the so called "civilized" people of the world who feel it is their duty to their religion and God to harvest more and more souls for engulfment by their churches or mosques and to send them to their respective heavens in their afterlife. In addition they consider it their singular mission to uplift and reform other cultures and their customs whom they deem primitive while they do not have time smell the odor of their own past and present practiced evils lingering on their shoes not the blood stains of their past violence on their hands has been imperceptively washed away. The supporters of such conversions do not necessarily recognize the greed or the empire building and political motives of such thrusts but feel gratified at the success of their lofty "compassionate" missionary emissaries to different parts of the world taking their God's “message.” It is imperative that the truly peace loving and peace practicing non-proselytizing cultures of the world gain insight into how they themselves, while being condemned, have kept from condemning other members of the human race to eternal suffering. Although these truly peace loving and reconciling religions, true to their attainment of civilized spirituality, have demonstrated historically more tolerance and acceptance of other human beings by not “condemning them to permanent suffering in the hell” and have practiced peacefully their own religions without encroaching on followers of other faiths, they have been depicted ironically in the Western and Islamic traditions, and in the world-view dominated by these monostheistc Abrahamic cultures as morally inferior “non-believers,” “infidels” or "heathens" and sometimes as utterly primitive barbarians. (Killing millions is not a barbarian act if comitted by the devout civilized people!! See the post on Novartis and its connections on a separate post on this web-site). Such widespread pejorative depiction of “non-monotheistic” non-proselytizing religions of the world through various media is even becoming the preoccupation of the "academic" departments of religious studies and cultural anthropology in the Western world, the Western (so-called) Indologists or Orientologists, Department of Sanskrit and Indian Studies, etc. of reputable universities surreptitiously supported by the organized religions in various ways, and even the casual Western tourists and travelers visiting the non-Christian or non-Islamic dominated countries who want to present their “wisdom” to the world. This weird complex of religious superiority is predicated upon a presumptuous belief that the morality, ethics, conscience, fairness in human interaction, love and compassion are the monopoly of their respective religions and spring solely from their superior religion and religious beliefs. Furthermore, there is a shared delusion that the prosperity, and scientific progress of their own culture is the accomplishment of their religous beliefs or gift of their respective Gods and others who did not believe in their beliefs are not only doomed to hell in the after-life but also in this life to suffer poverty and inferior quality of lives because of their moral deficits. Little is remembered as to how their own religions actually militated against all scientific discoveries and progress historically, leading tot he dark ages, sentencing the scientists to death for their discoveries that did not agree with their religious doctrines or dogma. Understandably the vested interests, namely Churches and various religious groups (e.g. Saudi Arabian fanatic financiers) in the so-called monotheistic religions finance such imperialitic efforts and engage in it themselves. Intriguingly, the followers of condemning and “pagan-rescuing” "quafar-rescuing" Western and Middle Eastern religions are indoctrinated in their Churches and Mosques for centuries with their proselytizing culture and aggressive empire building, dominating drives and brainwashing modus operandi. They feel sincerely honest to their faith and truly virtuous and pious when they flaunt themselves as Monotheistic, and therefore, morally superior, devoted to “practice love of their neighbors and praying for peace on Earth,” “condoning the blatant duplicity of Islam (their Abrahamic non-heathen brothers) as peace loving religion, intepreting obviously violent jihad as pursuit of peace and internal reformation,” though the mega-actions of all of these thorughout their history speak to the contrary. In actuality, however, these very so-called peace-loving religions have inflicted untold misery on the large sections of the world population with centuries of violence and terrorism including the genocides of the Jewish and Zoroastrians, (recently Bahai's) the very people from whom they inherited their so-called monotheistic religions and the concept of God and Devil. “I am right, you are wrong: Go to Hell” mentality springing from paranoid grandiosity of the two currently dominant proselytizing religions of the world leading to "conflict of civilizations" as well as a major confrontation even between themselves is fundamentally unethical and immoral, no matter how it is rationalized as a superior morality in any “God’s view.” Promulgated hatred and conflicts, influenced by such culturally congruent, and therefore, undetected shared delusions, lead to wars that are either instigated or supported by these organized religions, between themselves throughout the past twelve or more centuries, and also disguised as wars for the causes other than the propagation of their religions. These violent wars have sacrificed very young adults and even children as soldiers killed in action that could be counted only in millions not even counting the mass murders and massacres of several million innocent people, women, children and elderly of those that were and are not the affiliates of their own religions. The modern worldview is afflicted by a serious and intriguing historical blind-spot for the destructive track-record of these so-called “peace loving” but in actuality violent and aggressive religions of the past two millennia in the general world-view and their own self-perception which is almost schizophrenic, clearly denying and disavowing the collective violence inflicted upon by these "civilized and kind" people who go all over the world to teach love and kindness towards their neighbors having decimated neighboring cultures and their past civilizations unrecognizably, with all facts buried in the unwritten history of the world. The holocaust musiums of their victims, be they Native Indians, Mayans, Mexicans, Latin Americans, African Americans, aborigines of Congo, Hindus, Kashmiri Hindu Pundis or others subjected to genocides are never to be found anywhere because the facts are heavily hidden in the distorted and twisted in the history more often written by their own adherents or their political sympathisers. Their political domination and their influence on the political powers and royalties beginning with the Roman empire of Constantine and continued to this age with interference in monarchies, oligarchies, autocracies, and the democracies of the world have been the major themes of the political and cultural history of the world. Separation of the Church and the State are only ideals but not seen in practice when imperialism and colonialism in old and new form is practiced through the centuries. Theocracies, of course, do not separate religions from their military or political powers and they go hand in hand wherever they go; they are always together although not visible as such. With this historical backdrop, it is the thesis of this article that the concept of “Dhee” in the Eastern religions, in stark contrast to its absence in the Western and Middle Eastern religions, has had a profound subliminal humane influence throughout the ages in creating a lofty and noble accepting attitude towards all Human beings without any strings attached or expectation that they will accept the stranger's faith or beliefs. To the extent that the only desire expressed in the “distillate” of the Vedas, the Rig-Vedic “Gayatry Mantra”, is to protect the freedom and the autonomy of “our Dhees” (or precisely “dhiyo” meaning “dhees” as plural, and wish they, “dhiyo” - the dhees) be guided or inspired and that only such sentiment is seen worthy of large scale handing down through oral transmission for millennia, it is indeed quite surprising that the concept of Dhee has not to this date received wider attention from the adherents of the Vedic traditions. The concept of Dhee encompasses the concept of Intellect, Collective Unconscious, intuition, emotional intelligence, wisdom, and many other cognitive faculties of human mind but most importantly it refers to a balance of sensibilities and above all freedom of thinking. This will be elaborated in the following article. It is asserted that sooner or later (sooner than later) the global civilization will perforce need to take note of the concept of Dhee and the Concept of Hinduness whether named so in the widely accepted world-view or not, it will need to be reckoned in the official international cooperation oriented bodies such as the United Nations Organization (UNO). It is high time that the Secretary General of UNO is again from one of the cultures that recognize the concept of Dhee and one that has a global perspective on the root causes of war and peace and international terrorism. The “Hinduness Deficiency Disease” (“HDD”) in the global population, including the population of India, has become endemic. Hinduness does not refer to Hindu religion but to the essence of the Vedic thoughts and Vedic culture, variously called as Sanatana Dharma, Perennial Philosophy (a la Aldous Huxley),Vedanta Philosophy, etc. which have provided the philosophical infrastructure for the so called Hindu culture and Hindu religion, if one accepts such exist, though not definable. “HDD” leads to legitimized and rationalized intolerance of other human beings by certain greedy and grandiose cultures expressing vicious large scale destructive violence, as well as the most dangerous tendency to engage in genocide towards large sections of world populations. This global disorder will present a potential threat to world peace and harmony, nay the very survival of the human race on this earth. This global disorder is more of an imminent threat to survival of all living beings on this planet than global warming, global water shortage, and pollution with nuclear waste, population increase or high magnitude natural disasters, all put together. It is also asserted that “Hinduness” as defined here as a global mind-set, (Vishwa-Dharma), and is not a monopoly of the so-called "Hindus," but may be even more prominently found in its purity in a large number of spiritually mature non-Hindus and non-adherents ofSanatana Dharma. Those who have matured spiritually to that level through any religion or even educational enlightenment will instantly grasp the meaning of DHEE. Dhee and Hinduness are attributes that all individuals of the civilized human race potentially or theoretically possess. There is no Hinduness without the recognition and acceptance of the concept of Dhee. Cultivating a keen awareness of these spiritual or mental phenomena predicated upon retention of pristine empathy emerging in early childhood in the context of maternal love transfered to family, siblings, and peers, in one’s self and one’s culture and civilization, under any generic names, will lead to a more civilized and peace loving human race. The author envisions the possibility that these concepts may become the necessary foundations for the civilizations of the future and will be more broadly elaborated as “a philosophy of spirituality or religions,” though the word “religion” and “religions” as practiced today may become obsolete after the 21st century. The signs for an emerging scientific humanism and a global humanistic ethic are quite evident as one watches the unrest in the global younger generation that is beginning to question the age-old brain-washing and manipulation, of minds and lives of people, by the “organized” religions under the name of “rewards in the afterlife.” This generation is becoming more spiritual and less religious. Before the advent of the refined legislative techniques and judiciaries, and well-designed governmental systems, religions made it their self-appointed, self-serving business to write the laws to control the behaviors of their adherents and also engaged in ruling over the people. Religions though now not ruling, not by their own choice though, are providing the benign social and educational infrastructure and support systems to the families, the children, the weak and the infirm today. It is not to be denied that every religion has its component of mature, kind, benign, benevolent, generous, self-sacrificing, altruistic population. Even this role may be usurped by other humane non-religious benevolent and ethical social structures in the future. That will leave no specific tasks for the organized "religions" than to play on the emotions of the ignorant people who are gullible enough to buy their gigantic superstitions or “cock and bull” stories as history and/or true events. These culturally congruent delusions are the “presence of after life”, “justice giving Father in Heaven,” and “guaranteed entry into heaven” if such one exists. Selling such intangibles as faith truly for a hidden price has been the "business" of religions, double dipping in modern era as tax-free organizations, getting richer day after day. There is so much good that comes usually with these as a bonus only if their beneficiaries agree to adhere to their promulgated beliefs. The positive value for any society of such thrusts cannot be denied. Concrete minded helpless people lacking in support systems will need some kind of religion or faith along the line with the support systems the organized religions do provide but the majority of educated and enlightened people in the twenty second century will see no use for any "religion" and squarely will see it as a hoax. (The reader is well advised to read my previous article on www.swaveda.com on “Hinduness for World Peace and Harmony” and “Demystifying Shri Ganesha” as a prerequisite to get introduced to some of the basic concepts related to Dhee as well as Hinduness, which will not be expounded again in this article.) China and Russia have recognized the mischief these aggressive proselytizing religions can play in their countries if given a free rein under their demand of freedom of religion meaning freedom to proselytize and demographically attack the host society. Their godfathers in the US monitor these deterrents for the spread of evangelical and imperialistical Abrahamic faiths in other countries motivated by old anachronistic colonial habits and profit making business, as a restriction of practice of religion rather than proactive protection of the composition and structure of their own societies that every country and culture have the right to protect. Such miscief goes unnoticed when it is sugar coated as human rights issue deluding the public which is generally sympathetic to them sometime granting these elements the "power" in the government camouflaging their true colors. The reader is encouraged to continue to read this article although disagreeing with some of the statements made so far and even if the meaning of some of the words is not clear at first glance. The author of this article is confident that every reader who completes the reading of this article and struggles through it to understand the meanings of the words can also begin to incorporate within himself/herself qualities characteristic of the generic Hinduness and fully grasp what Dhee stands for. “Dhee” is the best-kept and best-guarded (open?) secret of the Vedic culture. The concept of “dhee” is the essence of the Eastern religions and Eastern civilizations. The word “Zen” is derived from “Dhyana” which is “dhee+yana,” and the word “Buddha” is derived from the word “buddhee” which is “bud + dhee.” The word Dhyana was distorted as it traveled East from India and was converted to Chyanain Chinese and Zen in Japanese. In the Vedic culture there is an extraordinary emphasis on “Samadhi” which is “sam + aa + dhee” or “samaa + dhee.” The process of well thought of psychological and cultural development of an individual into a mature, civilized, educated, well informed, broad-minded, kind and compassionate individual was viewed as “sankritization” brought about through a series of “sanskara” “vidhees.” The word vidhi is composed of “vi +dhi.” In the Sankhya darshana the entity or “tatva” that emerged from the Prakriti was “Mahad” or “Mahadhee” which is “maha +dhee”. The secret “gayatry mantra” is to be orally transmitted from generation to generation for keeping the awareness of “Brahman” active in the minds of those who wish to be “Su-sanskrit” and go through the “upanayana” “vidhee” by focusing daily on “dhee” at least twice, in the morning and evening. The contemplation is curiously not designed, in contrast to many other prayers to pray for better afterlife, or a better next life, nor is it a ritual designed as a begetting machine, or a ticket to the heaven if one such entity exists. Neither does the mantra “ask for anything” for individual gain or power, but only expresses a wish and affirmation that the dhee that belongs to all of us (human race) be guided and inspired in the right direction. What was that concept of “Dhee” that the Eastern civilizations, mainly the Hindu and the Buddhist, focused on but seem not to have discussed very much as the very essence of their civilization? Keep tuned to www.swaveda.com for continuation of this article. FREEDOM OF THINKING: ESSENCE OF HINDUNESS DHEE : The Essence of Hinduness (Part II) (Vedic Roots of Equality) by Shree Vinekar, M.D. The
question raised at the end of Part I of the article on “DHEE” (onhttp://www.swaveda.com/) was, “What is Dhee?”
The cognitive science of the Vedas views Dhee as
a faculty of the mind, which in its highest accomplishment enables one to
comprehend the Ultimate in this Universe. The Ultimate in the Universe is Brahman in Vedicscience and Vedantic literature. Dhee is not only vested in an individual
but has a collective existence. It nurtures the entire cognate creation. The “Mahad” or “Mahadhee” of Saankhya Darshanarefers to the Universal
Intelligence. (Please see “Demystifying ShriGanesha” on www.swaveda.com ). The basic
eternal law (or laws) of nature is termed "Ritam" in Sanskrit. It can be intuitively
comprehended by the human mind through the agency of Dhee.
With proper tuning in of individual Dhee, Ritam can
be directly perceived through a sub-faculty or a component of Dhee termed “Prajnya.” In a fully “realized”
individual, who has experienced and comprehended the nature of Brahman, Dhee is privileged to enjoy prajnya that is filled with a deep unconscious
and sometimes conscious knowledge of all the laws of nature, as intended in a
statement, “ritambhara tatraprajnya.” (This expression is used
by Patanjali in
his “Yoga Sutras.” It means: “In that state the prajnya is filled with all the “rita’s” or truths.) Buddha or a “Sthitaprajnya” would have reached that
state of consciousness or evolved to attain that state of being.Sthitaprajnya is an adjective used to describe such
fully realized individual. There are other equivalent terms which convey the
same state of being of a fully evolved human being. The classic quotation is
from the second chapter of Bhagvadgeeta: "Sthitaprajnyasya kaabhaashaa, Samaadhisthasya Keshava, Sthitadhee kim prabhaashetakimaaseeta vrajeta kim?" Arjuna asks this question to Shri Krishna. Here it is obvious that the
terms Sthitaprajnya, Samaadhistha, andSthitadhee are nearly equivalent synonyms.
(Approximate literal translation could be as follows: Keshava,
what is the definition of theSthitaprajnya who is also a Samaadhistha?
Or, what does aSamaadhistha Sthitaprajnya express verbally? How does Sthitadheeexhort,
how does he express himself non-verbally –
how does he sit, and how does he conduct himself or how does he behave? In
essence, in this quote Arjuna wants Shri Krishna also known as Keshava to
explain to him the characteristics specific to an individual who deserves to be
recognized as Sthitaprajnya, Samaadhistha, andSthitadhee. These terms refer then to
individuals enjoying experiential and existential states of consciousness
and/or states of being. The clinical signs and symptoms of this highest
potential condition of human life are yet to be defined and criteria for
diagnosing this condition, if you may, are to be offered for the first time in
this special Yogashaastra of the Vedaantic literature,Bhagavadgeetaa, to be offered by Vyaasa,
its author, through the character of Shri Krishna) Universe in a single frame of reference. At its sublime level Saankhyaview of the entire Universe, or all existing universes if there are many, in any form, as entirely contained in the radiating sentient energy or Purusha. This frame of reference makes Saankhya look reductionistic yet the jury is not out to confirm or disprove its thesis. The question as to how the mass appears in the Universe and how energy is converted into mass are questions physicists are still grappling with although they have convincingly demonstrated how mass can be converted into energy. This said, one has to wait for scientific developments in the Quantum physics or Elementary Particle physics to arrive at the appropriate appreciation of the basic concepts of Saankhya. In the true Indian philospophical or Vedictradition there is room for corrections or revisions of theory and the truth will prevail as there is no conflict between Vedic philosophy and science. Vedas are a pursuit of knowledge in the same scientific spirit and rests on "facts" as they exist and not on imaginary non-exitant entities (Sat and Asat). Asat is to be discarded. The following discusstion regarding the etymology and different aspects of Dhee may be skipped at first reading, yet it would be of value to read it for the second reading of this article by a serious student. _____________________________________________________________________ What is missing in the usual expositions on the Vedic Philosophy is emphasis on “Dhee (Dheehi).” It is important to understand the etymology of the words that have “Dhi” or “Dhee” in them to get a full picture of what is implied by this concept of Dhee. The words ending in “dhi” are sometimes viewed as not related to “Dhee.” Many Sanskrit scholars may not fully agree with this writer’s breakdown of the Sanskrit words to illustrate the pivotal presence of the concept of Dhee in the Vedic and Buddhist spiritual literature. It may be the initial criticism of the Part I of this article onhttp://www.swaveda.com/ by some Sanskrit scholars that some of the words (in Part I of this article) this writer has chosen to illustrate ubiquitous references to “Dhee” as drawing attention to this concept of “Dhee” do not have “dhee” in them in the strict grammatical sense except as a homonym. For example, the root “Dha” (“Dhri” or “Dhru”) stands for “holding,” and therefore, “Bud” in the word “Buddha” (Bodhati- Bodhate) refers to “to understand, to know” and “Buddhah” (one who holds the knowledge) in the sense of “enlightened” has no relation, it may be argued, to the word “Dhee.” Likewise, “Buddhih” is a term used for intellect as a faculty of the mind. The fact that the Dhi in this word is a rhasva (i) and not adeergha (ee) “dhee” makes it a word not related to “Dhee.” Also, the word “Vidhi” has a rhasva (“i”) “dhi” and as such only stands for “a method” “a rite” or a ritual. “Vidhee,” with deergha (“ee”) “dhee,” may stand for fate, “destiny or luck,” and neither is itrelated to “Dhee” as proposed by this writer. So, such somewhat legitimate scholastic arguments could lead to linguistic objections pointing to the fact that it seems the Rhasva dhi is more (dhiyati) related to “Dha” meaning simply to hold or to possess. For example, “a receptacle,” “dhi,” as in “jaladhi” (jala means water and jaladhimeans a pond or a lake, literally a water reservoir) has nothing to do with “Dhee.” Such derivations and variations of the meanings ofrhasva “dhi” and deergha “dhee” have lead to probable disconnectionof “Dhee” from “dhi.” Such considerations in the scholastic semanticinterpretations of “Dhi” and “Dhee” tend to offer these two homonyms as two separate concepts. ______________________________________________________________________ So
let us take on the giants among the Indian and Western translators of Vedic and Vedantic concepts first. They have been
extensively preoccupied with Atman and Purusha as the perceiving and comprehending agencies of the mind and also have
been attributing an active role to them. The illustration below
is to demystify the terms “Self” and “Person” used by these giants of English
versions of Vedas and Vedanta and see these “tatvas”
as merely nodes of consciousness. These individual (Purusha)
nodes ofconsciousness or fields, by definition are passive
until their “nirguna” nature
becomes "saguna."
That is to say, the individual as well as the Cosmic consciousness is devoid of any qualities that would
be differentiating IT from anything else. It is only when
IT begins todifferentiate that the qualities or gunaas become
discernible. (See the article on “Demystifying Shri Ganesha” and “Hinduness for
World Peace and Harmony” on http://www.swaveda.com/ ) The active faculty of the mind for
the practice of Yoga is “DHEE”
(not Atman orPurusha). Yoga as a discipline to
achieve integration of the personality is focused on Dhee,
a faculty uniquely evolved in human beings. Buddhi (vyavasaayaatmikaa buddhi or pragmatic intellect, for example)
refers to problem solving cognitive abilities with mechanical, mathematical,
verbal, performance, social, musical, and other synthetic creative functions of
the intellect as well as visuao-spatial and visuo-motor
perceptions and abilities (coordination)
and the organizing and executive functions of the brain. Buddhi is, of course, essential for Dhee to evolve. In fact Shri Krishna advises Arjuna to start with
this very first step, by saying, “vyavasaatmikaabuddhi eka-iva kuru Nandana.” (Bring together all the
faculties of your pragmatic intelligence as
if they are all one and concentrate).Dharma usually refers to refined moral
development of the mind through incorporation of “good” samskaaras and
use of a VivekaBuddhi. Viveka is the faculty of Buddhi or Dhee that
enables one to be sensible, just, and appropriate in personal, family, social
and global context responsible for what may be considered “judgment.”Saara-asaara Viveka Buddhi (This is the faculty that distinguishesrelevant
from irrelevant, essential from non-essential and recognizes the context and relationship of the background to the foreground,
or the figure focused upon) or sad-asad Viveka (distinguishing real from unreal) is a sub-faculty of Dhee. Viveka can thus intuitively
distinguish “Sadaachaara from Duraachaara (good conduct from bad conduct).”
"Manas" in Yoga
refers to the “emotional mind” and is considered lower in hierarchy, with its
being assigned the status of an "indriya"
(rough translation- “sense organ”) of Dhee along
with five other indriyas.
It is only proper considering that “manas”
is, since infancy, an elaboration of the interoceptor derived
information and memories that form the substratum for emotions which discolor
current and past perceptions, cognition, memories, actions, andrelationships and even the nature of reality as
perceived by an individual. Manas has
its language of the heart and often is not logical. It is not the intelligence by itself and it is Dhee that raisesManas derived
input by processing it to render an emotional maturity to an individual. Yoga
has special techniques to tame, modulate, and regulate manas and one of those techniques is Pranaayama. Dheeregulates
the buddhi (intellect), manas (emotional intelligence),
and the moral compass (Viveka and Dharma)
to navigate oneself in one’s life (in the microcosm). Every child has a deeply
seated sense of fairness and justice, compassion and love, and sensibility in
its rudimentary form which emanates from this faculty of Dhee which develops and matures into
the Dharmic tendencies
of Dhee. Justintelligence alone does not make a mature human
being. RefinedBuddhi, Manas, and Viveka are the minimum three components ofDhee for
a human being to be considered civilized and mature human being. These three
components then sharpened by vaac, pratibhaa, prajnya,
etc., blossom into fully evolved Dhee that
attains the potential for comprehending Brahman, Atman or Purusha. It would be corrupt to translate the Namaste or Vande as a mere greeting or a salute. There is utmost respect and affinity expressed in this gesture. The fact is that it is directed towards the human beings, mothers, fathers and even strangers leave alone the mother land and God that sustains the very existence of the individual. The concrete minded goons take objection to the use of the word "Vande" when addressing the mother land without comprehending how much love there is in a patriot when he/she appreciates what mother land has provided, the very nurturance to sustain life. These goons have not been silenced by explaining the humility involved therein rather than posing the mother land as being in competition with their God as they would want to corruptly interpret it. So, they take something traditional and simple and make it objectionable and offensive to themselves, and furthermore, irrationalyy bully others by imposing their will on others. Of course, goons will always find rationalization to bully others and impose their ways on others and explain away their antisocial behaviors. Sensible people with self respect must put a stop to it and ask them to leave the premises if they have objection to such reverence for the mother land. It is not and never is an insult to them or their God for one to say Vande or Namaste to their mothers or mother land. Imagine Mahadhee as the equivalent of the Internet with
each individual Dhee manifesting
the potential to be a “search engine,” if you can accept such analogy of IT or
“Information Technology.” There is, however, a vast difference between
information storehouse and knowledge or wisdom. Purusha,
Brahman, Atman are
all-comprehending (not necessarily in the sense of information storehouse but a
different type of knowledge that is called “jnyaanam”
in contradistinction from “vijnyaanam”)
or their nature itself is Jnyaanam. Therefore, when Dhee acquires this jnyaanamwith
its sub-faculty Prajnyaa leading Dhee to it, Dhee comes to a fulfillment of its
designed, destined, or designated function and becomes the Dhee of a “Sthitadhee.” The individual who attains such a state of
mind or state of Dhee is
also called “Sthitadhee.”
This function in the evolution of human beings may be conceived as the ability
or potential for the highest possible cognition and maturation of Dhee to attain Brahmajnyaana according to the Vedic or Sanaatana dharma. The Vedic and Yogic science
then is primarily devoted to refinement, evolution, and culmination of Dhee into a state ofSamaadhee (state of consciousness or a
state of being) where Dheecomes to rest in a state of balance
and fulfillment of the individual Dhee as “Sthitadhee,”
an adjective based upon the functional status of Dhee.
Thus the samaadhistha by nature eventually becomesSthitadhee. Likewise, the fulfillment or
culmination of the sub-faculty of Dhee, Prajnyaa, in the most “spiritually
evolved” individual leads to his/her becoming a “Sthitaprajnya or
a Sthitaprajnyaa (as
applied to a female)” This is also a similar adjective based upon the
functional status of prajnyaa. The “sanskaaras” or impressions (or
memories) imprinted on the individual dhee in
this state of samaadhiare so very profound, strong
and dominant that the other frames of reference in comprehending reality
predicated upon previously ingrained sanskaaras begin to weaken naturally (tanjanya sanskaraa anyasanskaara pratibandhee – per Patanjali’s Yogasutras.) Samaadhiis
a transcendental state, but repeated experience of samaadhi is consequential in leading to the
state of being which itself deserves to be termed “samaadhi.” This is a slightly confusing aspect ofYogashaastra. This confusion can be relieved by
understanding the fact that the highest integrative process (sanyama) in the evolution of Dhee is termed Samaadhi and the state of consciousness
attained through this process of samaadhi is also termed “Samaadhi.” An individual who is
consistently and perpetually in a state of samaadhiin the “usual wakeful” state is
experiencing samaadhi as a state of being. This is termed
the Sahajavastha (Natural State). Samaadheeis,
thus a process of transformation through evolving higher states of
consciousness. The (transcendental) states of consciousness finally lead to
transformation of the aspirant’s maturation into a persistent highest evolved
“state of being.” The individual who has attained that state of being is also
called “sthitaprajnya.” The
Buddhists call him a “Buddha”
who has attained the “Bodhihi” (enlightenment).Bodhisatva, a practicing aspirant, has
a potential to become aBuddha.
So also, an aspiring Yogi who
becomes samaadhisthaexperiences the
transcendental state of samaadhi and attains a potential to
become a sthitadhee or a sthitaprajnya through his “saadhanaa” (practice of yoga). Science of yoga is considered central
to all Hinduness related spectrum (or groups) of “religions” orSanaatana Dharmic traditions. Focus on Dhee is central for the practice of yoga.
Therefore, “Dhee is the essence of Hinduness.” http://sookta-sumana.blogspot.com/search?q=essence+of+hinduness Read more: http://www.swaveda.com/articles.php?mnthyr=20098&action=show&id=125#ixzz0OJUDT6U4 |
