Charcoal cloth is usually used for fire ignition (lighting). Charcoal cloth is made by heating cotton cloth with almost no air supply. A small metallic box is usually used with a small nail size hole punctured in the middle of the upper lid to relieve pressure which could cause the box to explode. Small peaces of cotton are placed inside the box and the lid is closed. The box is placed over a steady heat source, eventually a toxic-flammable smoke will rise from the hole and may catch fire after no more smoke rises, wait a bit longer then carefully remove it from the fire and seal the hole. Wait until the box cools down then carefully remove the lid (cloth could ignite if not cooled down properly). The cloth should be evenly charred (black) and should be easy to tear with your bear hands but not disintegrate upon touch. |
