Junior Counselors

For ages 14+ (preferably with experience in Knockaround Leadership Camp) we offer a volunteer Junior Counselor Program. Designed for high school students who wish to learn what it's like to be a counselor at Knockaround, our JCs are a huge asset to the Camp. All accepted Junior Counselors will be placed into a group, alongside 2 full time counselors and asked to take on certain responsibilities. These include dynamically interacting with the campers, facilitating games and projects, monitoring the safety of camp, and participating first hand in various activities. In exchange, our JCs gain valuable workplace experience, leadership skills, and environment to grow creatively and the satisfaction that comes with being a mentor to younger children.

Space is limited to 4 Junior Counselors per session of Knockaround Camp with certain additional spaces allowed for the various specialty camps (Beach, Gymnastics, Fencing, etc.). In order to apply ALL potential Junior Counselors must submit a letter to The Rock (dnoack@ucsd.edu) stating why they would like to be involved in the program and what uniquely qualifies them for the position. Please include with the letter which full session dates you are interested in and if you are interested in any specialty camp. THIS PROGRAM WAS HEAVILY IMPACTED LAST SUMMER AND ACCEPTANCE IS NOT GUARANTEED, so please plan ahead! Letters may be submitted starting February 1st and we will work promptly to let you know which sessions your Junior Counselor has been accepted to.
