Grand Forks Flood 2009

March 24, 2009

6pm      River Level = 38.22ft

The river is getting close to the top of the railroad switch and only the tops of the bench and railing can be seen at the Rotary park overlook.  Daisy refused to
pose for a picture by the flood marker tonight!

12:30am    River Level 40ft.       Moderate Flood Stage

9am       River Level = 42ft.

We had a dandy of a snowstorm overnight and into this morning, and there is an ice jam near Crookston in the Red Lake River.  It seems ominous,
but Grand Forks remains optimistic.  Crest predictions remain the same. I can only guess that flood control is taking top priority with city workers.  When I
took flood watch-dog Daisy for her walk this morning, the going was rough.  The streets had been plowed once and sidewalks were cleared only in front
of businesses for the most part.

Wow that's a lot of water.  There may not be much to see but the switch for the railroad bridge later.    Flood watch-dog Daisy is losing ground fast at the flood memorial.

10am       River Level = 42.3ft

Demers avenue closed in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks as crews prepare to insert flood barriers.

2pm         River Level = 43ft.

I'm taking pictures from the top of the dike, now.  The river is still expected to rise another 8 or 9 feet, so these views of the bridge and flood memorial will become quite dramatic.
