Australia is a sunny country, and sunshine is free, so we are all well placed to take advantage of the energy that surrounds us. Installing a small solar power system on your home is now easier than ever and makes a lot more sense now that prices have dropped and government rebates are available. What I hope to do is address some of the concerns and myths that surround solar power use in general by answering common questions I get asked. Some are related to aesthetics, money, reliability and benefits of the technology, all of which are debatable. So here goes..... One of the great things about living in Australia is choice. In fact nearly everyday is a Chooseday for many of us. We get to choose what we eat, what to wear, where to live and what to buy. Some of our choices are mandatory and necessary to maintain our health and well being. Others are discretionary and can impact adversely on our health and happiness if we don't choose wisely. So as we travel through the supermarket of life we are easily distracted by attractive, often unnecessary and even harmful goods and services, even though we are really only interested in obtaining useful and beneficial things. Sometimes we buy things like jetskis and computers, which are often very expensive, but justifiable because they make us happy. As I type these words you may be interested to know that all of the power used to run this computer, connect to the internet and even run my refrigerator, is coming from the solar system on my rooftop. The picture below is of my recently installed 1kWp, 1 kilowatt peak output, system. And I've put some recent data for the last few months as well. |
