Julius Klein grew up in Catalunya (Cadaqués and Torroella de Montgrí) - Spain. In July 2003 he graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Universitat de Girona (Catalunya, Spain). During the last two summers of his program, he worked as an industrial automaton PLC programmer and prior to this he worked six years for the Torroella de Montgrí town hall sports section as a swimming instructor for children. He also colaborated six months with the textile company Antex S.A. (Anglès) to reduce their outdoor acoustic contamination level.

In July 2003, he was awarded a Balsells Fellowship to pursue a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main research field is Robotics and Control Systems. He obtained his M.S. in 2005. In March 2009 he obtained his PhD with Dr. David J. Reinkensmeyer at the Biorobtics Laboratory of the University of California, Irvine. His research topic was robotics for neurorehabilitation, although his research interests also include robotics, nonlinear control, SolidWorks and CAD/CAM modelling and simulation, fabrication processes, motor learning. For his PhD thesis at the Biomechatronics Lab he designed "BONES", a Biomimetic Orthosis for the Neurorehabilitation of the Elbow and Shoulder (video, publication), a Closed-Chain Robot for Assisting in Manual Exercise and Rehabilitation ("CRAMER") (video, publication) and a pneumatically actuated Supinator Extender "SUE".

From March 2010 to January 2012 he's worked with Etienne Burdet at the Human Robotics Group as a Post Doctoral Researcher at Imperial College London in the Bioengineering Department. During these two years in London he developed a three degree of freedom manipulandum "3DOM", and instrumented sorting blocks box, a children's arm trainer "CAT", a system for independent task-oriented assessment and rehabilitation "SITAR" and
a low cost hand rehabilitation device "LOBSTER".

Sine February 2012 he's a researcher at Nanyang Tehcnical University in Singapore collaborating with Domenico Campolo
