![]() Biography I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where most of family still lives. I attended the University of Toronto for my undergraduate degree where I majored in philosophy and did a double minor in zoology and religion. I went to the University of Western Ontario in 2003 for my Master's degree in philosophy. After a one-year stint in the private sector I happily returned to the University of Western Ontario in the Fall of 2005 to pursue a doctorate in philosophy, which I defended in December 2009. My main philosophical interest is in the Early Modern period and my dissertation focuses on the doctrine of human freedom in the philosophical works of the French philosopher Nicolas Malebranche and the British philosopher John Locke. My dissertation is entitled: "Intentional Volitions: Malebranche and Locke on Human Freedom." I am currently a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada postdoctoral fellow studying in the department of philosophy at the University of California, San Diego. My research is focused on extending and expanding some of the themes developed in my dissertation to the philosophical system of the German philosopher G.W. Leibniz. When not thinking about philosophy, I love doing the New York Times crossword, baking, reading fiction, and enjoying time outdoors at the beaches and parks of San Diego. |
