Formed in 1999 under the artistic direction of Hilary Roberts (now emeritus), the ensemble consists of about thirty dancers and singers, as well as a cadre of talented musicians, all of whom are seasoned performers. The group was honored to participate in the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in 2000 and 2001, quite a coup for such a young company, again in 2005, and returns to EDF with Squares and Clogging on the weekend of Saturday June 27 (2 pm & 8 pm) & Sunday June 28 (2pm), 2009, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

Jubilee also performs at the Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival on Saturday September 26 (2pm & 8pm), and a workshop in Old Sacramento on Sunday 27 at 10am/

"Infectious joy in communal dancing was effectively communicated by a first time participant, Jubilee American Dance Theatre ... excellently presented." ~ Dance Magazine

Jubilee American Dance Theatre raised the roof at the 23rd San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival ... Jubilee brought history to life." ~ The Piedmonter

Jubilee performed the Dances from Cajun Country suite at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in June 2005, Jubilee performed its full repertoire at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival in Finland in July 2005, to great critical acclaim (see photos below). Jubilee sold out performances of its first full-length homeshow Ramblin Roads: An Odyessey of Traditional American Dance and Music in May 2006 at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California. In July 2008, the group travelled to France to perform for ten days with other groups from around the world at the Festival de Gannat.  In June 2009, Jubilee performed Squares and Clogging at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.  In September 2009, Jubilee performed at the Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival.
The group is continually expanding its repertoire, and exploring the cultures from which America's social dances are derived. "'People have always learned and borrowed from each other.... It's an amalgam,' says Roberts. 'We're a melting pot.'" ~ Oakland Tribune
