Recommended software and hardware- OS: Windows Vista or Windows XP
- CPU: Intel Pentium4 (1.7GHz or higher)
- Memory: 1GB or higher
- Harddisk: SATA harddisk (7200 rpm or higher)
Software requirements:
- J2SE 6 Update 10 or higher is required.
- Supported browsers: Firefox 3 , IE 7, Google Chrome
Video Encoder (Optional):
- If
you wish to create a slideshow video, mencoder (part of the
command-line version of Mplayer) must be installed.
- The directory of
mencoder's binary file must be added into the environment variable
"PATH".
- At lest 2G bytes free harddisk space is required for video creation.
Performance Bottlenecks
The sustained data transfer rate of hard disk is the major bottleneck for performance. Compared with old PATA harddisks, a SATA hard disk can significantly reduce the video creation time. If you have both SATA and PATA harddisks, please install Maple slideshow builder on the SATA drive.
Benchmark Creating a 138-sec-long (30fps, 4157 frames) video with 58 pics Intel P4 2.4Ghz + 1G Mem
| Hard-disk | Building time (the shorter the better) | | Samsung PATA/5400rpm/80G | 381 seconds | | Samsung SATA/7200rpm/160G | 314 seconds |
Restrictions:
- Do not make extremely large slideshow applets (e.g. > 1024x768). A typical 640x360 slideshow applet can run smoothly in a five-years-old PC while a 1024x768 applet will bring a lot of trouble for old machines. It's recommended to use video as target when making extremely large slideshows.
- At most 60 ascii characters in one line of lyric.
