This is a very simple reading strategy. It involves a graphic organizer, separated into four specific areas. Depending on your content area, you can choose to put whatever is most important in the areas above. For my content area, English, I will use this when I am working through a short-story or a novel with my students. The topic goes in the center bubble, and around the page, my students will label each corner a different heading: Main characters, Major plot points, Settings, Themes. When we have completed a chapter, or the full story, we will do this activity as a class-- with them teaching me the story. We will compile the data together on the page, so they will all have the same answers. As they put together the study guide, by teaching me the story, they will then use this as their guide for the final assessment. It is a simple strategy that involves the students in learning the content, being active through class discussion, and deciding main points together. |
