Acid Rain Coursework

What's in a Medicine?

This module introduces the pharmaceutical industry.  Through a study of aspirin, the module illustrates many of the principle activities involved in the development of a medicine.  Finally, it considers the problems of development and safety testing.  We will study different instrumental detection methods and organic synthesis, as well as studying functional groups such as esters and carboxylic acids.  Fancy making aspirin in the microwave - you're doing the right subject!

As well as introducing new topics you also need to revise areas already covered at AS.

Areas you need to revise are:
  • CI 13.2  Alcohols and ethers
  • CI  6.4   Infrared spectroscopy

You can find copies of the notes under the AS Chemistry section, and use your AS revision guide.
