Acid Rain Coursework

Materials Revolution

The main theme of this module is the development of materials with specific properties to meet particular needs.  This time we will be studying condensation polymers.  An understanding of the relationship between the properties of materials and their bonding and structure is the key to designing new materials.  This will require you to consider the factors that affect properties of materials in more detail.  Topics covered will also include reactions of amines and amides and the disposal of polymers.

As well as introducing new topics you also need to revise areas already covered at AS.

Areas you need to revise are:
  • CI 3.1   Chemical bonding
  • CI 5.3   Bonds between molecules: temporary and permanent dipoles
  • CI 5.4   Bond between molecules: hydrogen bonding
  • CI 13.3 Carboxylic acids and their derivatives
  • CI 13.4 The -OH group in alcohols, phenols and acids
  • CI 13.5 Esters

You can find copies of the notes under the AS Chemistry section, and use your AS revision guide.
