Acid Rain Coursework

Agriculture and Industry

Growing crops for food has been a major human activity for a long time. The rapidly increasing world population means that the need to provide enough food without destroying our environment is one of the biggest challenges facing us. This module looks at the processes that occur as plants grow and decay, and farming processes that can be used to optimise crop yields. In this topic you will look at the relationship between the properties of substances and their structure and bonding. We will also study the redox chemistry of nitrogen.

As well as introducing new topics you also need to revise areas already covered in the course.

Areas you need to revise are:

  • CI 9.1 Oxidation and reduction
  • CI 2.4 Electronic structure: sub shells and orbitals
  • CI 3.1 Chemical bonding
  • CI 3.2 The shapes of molecules
  • CI 7.1 Chemical equilibrium
  • CI 10.5 What is a catalyst?
  • CI 10.6 How does a catalyst work?
  • CI 10.2 The effect of temperature on rate
  • CI 10.3 The effect of concentration on rate
  • CI 15.2 Raw Materials
  • CI 15.3 Costs and effciency
  • CI 15.5 Health and safety
  • CI 15.7 Percentage yield and atom economy
  • CI 15.10 Green chemistry and recycling
