About

Josep de la Puente Álvarez

Post-doctoral researcher in computational seismology. Studied  physics at the Universitat de Barcelona until February 2004. Received Ph.D. degree in geophysics in January 2008, at the Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität Munich. Worked on developing a discontinuous Galerkin method (ADER-DG) for the simulation of seismic waves, together with Dr. Martin Käser, with the aim of developing tools for earthquake simulation on unstructured meshes.

Currently post-doc researcher at Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM), of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), Barcelona. My current research is performed in the framework of the project Kaleidoscope.

I am member of the Barcelona Center for Subsurface Imaging (B-CSI) interdisciplinary research group, which has recently been awarded the "Grup de Recerca de Catalunya 2009 SGR 146" status.

Research Interests:

  •  Development of numerical methods for seismic wave propagation
  •  Viscoelastic, anisotropic and poroelastic rheologies.
  •  Earthquake dynamics
  •  Development of full waveform tomography algorithms and their application to field data.
