Obama's official dinner

Obama has brought back wines to the White House. Based on this article, Bush had some problems with alcohol when he was younger, so there was not wine during the time he was on the government. But now wines are back! In his first official dinner last February 23rd with all 50 governors of the United States he selected a Sauvignon Blanc from California, a Pinot Noir from Oregon and for the dessert one Riesling ice wine from Michigan.

The menu started with crab 'agnolotti' from the Chesapeake Bay with roasted Jerusalem artichokes with the excelent Sauvignon Blanc 2007 from Spottswoode (Napa, California). Secondly, wagyu (American ox, of course) and scallops with carrots, portobello mushrooms and spinach with cream; also a salad with citrus fruits, pistachios with a lemon and honey dressing; for this dish Pinot Noir Estate 2004 from Archery Summit (Oregón). For the dessert a huckleberry cake with caramel ice cream, served with the limited and of course expensive ($80 for a 37,5 cl, which a bit more than half pint) Riesling Ice Wine 'A Capella' 2007 form Black Star Farms, grapes collected in December in Suttons Bay (Michigan).
