Clicking on the future, Vercelli

Jorunn Monrad participated in "Clicking on the future" which opened in Vercelli on 8 October 2010, curated by Chiara Massini and Pina Inferrera: 8 young artists at the Auditorium Santa Chiara, and Jorunn Monrad and Luisa Mazza at the Leone Museum and the Borgogna Museum. Where a surprise was in store...

The Borgogna Museum is one of the most important picture galleries in northern Italy, with old masters, Flemish and Northern European and more recent works over three floors. Two artists, Jorunn Monrad and Luisa Mazza, were chosen to interact with historical works. Borgogna was a private collector who eventually donated his collection for the creation of the museum.

Close-up of the painting, "Variations in yellow", which interacts very well with the warm shades of the older works.
But the big surprise is on the wall facing the one visible in the background..

In fact, in room just next to the one chosen by the curators for Monrad's painting hangs another by her great-grandfather
(on her mother's side)  Adelsteen Normann.(1848-1918).. Normann mainly worked in Berlin,  but continued to visit Norway,
and he also showed in Paris and in other European cities. He is known for his interpretations of the Nordic light.
A Norwegian catalogue of Normann's work lists a work at the Civic Museum of Turin (now at the Galleria di Arte Moderna)
but the presence of this painting at the museum in Vercelli was a complete surprise!
Picture shows Monrad with Cinzia Lacchia, curator of the museum. Monrad's painting hangs to the
left of the door in the background.
