Call for Participation

We invite groups and research organizations involved in the processing of Catalan to present their work at this Session for the Computational Processing of Catalan Language, to be held Thursday, March 26th of 2009, at the Palau Robert, in Barcelona.

Session Goals:

  • Favoring communication among the different research groups and institutions developing computational resources and tools for Catalan
  • Facilitating collaboration among members and groups
  • Profit from and optimize the use of existing resources
  • Improve the social  visibility of Catalan processing

Types of participation:

1. Research Group Presentation: General presentation of the group activities (members, research lines, projects,tools and resources).
These will be short presentations based on the template (in Catalan) available at this website, so that there is time for every group. Further details on the group's tools and resources can be presented during the Product Show (see next bullet).
To participate, please submit your proposal by means of the proposals form by February 20, 2009.


2. Product Show: The show-and-tell will combine a demo and poster session, where groups will be able to demonstrate their products and the specifics of their research. The goal is to exchange information regarding existing tools and resources, concerning their capabilities, development, usage and potential applications.

Topics to be covered include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Corpora in digital format and annotated corpora, annotation strategies, designing good annotation guidelines, etc.
  • Lexical resources: computational lexicons, lexicographic and special domain databases, digital ontologies
  • Architectures and tools for linguistic processing
  • Machine translation
  • Information extraction
  • Spellers and grammar checkers, correcting tools
  • Tools and resources for speech processing and synthesis
  • Dialogue systems
  • Summarization
  • Text classification

Important dates:

  • February 20, 2009: Submission deadline for group presentations, demos, and posters
  • March 26, 2009: Working Session on the Computational Processing of Catalan
